You can get compression bar posts too, no?
Surprising that it doesn't have at least a CF fork.  Alum forks (even the good stuff like 7005) have a very harsh ride, and are a nag on the wrists and shoulders on rough pavement.  You can compensate to some extent with padded tape, gloves, and so forth, but still...

You mean seatposts?  I've seen them, but never used one.  But just comparing rigid frames/forks/etc, as freddish as it is, CF, is a better ride than aluminum (though not steel, as you know!)

My road bike is 7005 aluminum with a carbon fork, and it's pretty hard on the feet and hands on a rough surface.

I always found that 26" wheels are fine on pavement with the right rims and tires (like 1.5" wide/80+ psi).

I don't know if it was the wind, all of the gear I had on the bike (~20lbs), my lack of leg strength, lack of carbon fibre frame, or the small frame and wheel size (or all of the above) but I was sucking hind tit yesterday on the ride home.  Just totally dragging ass.  Just felt like I was working twice as hard to go half as far.  I'm going to test ride a Trek road bike this weekend to see if a wheel and frame increase will fix this or if I just need to do cycling classes 24/7.

WATER.  Make sure to bring at least three liters of water and some form of energy (banana, energy gel shot, Peruvian gold).  I started my ride home yesterday after gulping down 20oz of water and 2.5 scoops of Banana Creme Muscle Milk® Light and a couple of pieces of beef jerky.  I had a 1L bottle of Xtend amino acid water mix but that only lasted until the halfway point.  Looks like I'm going to need to get two additional water bottle holders if I'm going to be doing this every day.

Well, I've not been on a bike for a couple of years, so I'll probably make it halfway down the street before turning purple.  Ah well, I made the bed, time to lie in it.

I don't mind a rough ride, I just don't want to work so hard while riding.  Obviously losing weight will help but I doubt I'm going to drop 70lbs in a week.

I have my laptop strapped to my bike in a Chrome messenger bag so I'm going to need to have the water attached to the bike.

Geeks.

A laptop may fit in some Camelback versions.  Alternatively, the bladder may fit in many other backpacks that would also hold your laptop.  Being able to drink hands free is definitively superior to reaching for the bottle 30 times.  If it were me I think I'd find a way to carry the 3L camelback bladder with the laptop all on my back.

You made an incorrect assumption - I only drink when I'm not moving.  ;)

But you ride along D.C. waterways, right? The reflecting pool, the Potomac and what not? Just refill from there....

You would be better off refilling your bottle from the outfall pipe of Blue Plains before it hits the Potomac than drinking from the Tidal Basin or the Potomac.

I'd be really impressed. That would really be living in the Dangerzone™

I'm a big maybe for OD.  I have to be in Boston on 4/14 for my roto auction.  The two Seders are on 4/6 and 7, so I might make it a long week and stay up there with my 91 yr old Dad.  That said, work is heck right now, and I might do the drive up / fly back for the week / fly up / drive back to get in both weekends.

I'll spare you the permitting discussion for the outfall.  I just remember a tour of blue plains about 15 years ago and, at that time, they said the discharge met drinking water standards except for nitrogen, which they were looking at.

Considering how much of this stuff I put in my water I don't think it matters how terrible the water quality is:

Now, stay on topic - cycling!

My point is, the pure, delicious Blue Plains effluent would be mixed with Potomac River proper, which is mostly Anacostia flow along that shoreline.

If you want the really pure stuff, take a dip in Henson Creek about 1/4 below Rosecroft Raceway.  At least, when the horses were still running, that was some good, earthy runoff.

Cycling people, stay on topic.  If not, at least work in some references to coke, Arsenal, yuppies, or Karl Marx.

We play a game at work called West Virginia Basketball. The rules are as follows: Two players per team, each team stands at one end of the bball court. Each team throws a football at the opposite basket from behind the red line just past the foul line. If the ball hits the backboard, it's 1pt, if it hits the rim before hitting anything else, 2pts, if it goes in the basket, it's 3pts. However, if the opposing team catches the ball before it hits the ground, 0pts. Play to 11, win by 2. Winner stays on. The last game of the night, regardless of record for the night, is "Championship of the Universe"

It's a decent workout all in all and a blast to play. One minor rule, crap talking is a requirement and the more horrible, the better.

If you're still looking for a bike in May let me know, I should have my new ride by then and will be retiring my mountain bike from commuting.

I'd sell you mine for $50 but not headed your way anytime soon.
