If they weren't pitching in a deluge, they likely would have pitched better.
Atlanta is pitching in same conditions. Nats failed to score more the last few innings

We all know that, if H-Rod came into this game, where it is RAINING, he would rearrange the dirt on the mound with his toe 10 times.  That would also mean that he'd walk 3 batters and break the record for Wild Pitches in one season... and we'd lose this game.

(Image removed from quote.)

In 1886, Bill Stemmeyer threw 63 (!) wild pitches in a season. The modern record is Juan Guzman with 26, in 1993.

Phil Niekro once threw 6 wild pitches in a game.

Walter Johnson threw 4 wild pitches in a single inning on September 21, 1914.

Nolan Ryan led the MLB in wild pitches in six different seasons.

Henry Rodriguez has 9 wild pitches this year.

Atlanta is pitching in same conditions.

Not relevant.  These are conditions that you don't practice in or prepare to play in.  One team pitching better in these conditions is luck more than anything and luck from weather shouldn't come into play in a major league baseball game.

Oh well.  I have no confidence in Clippard to convert the save.

I don't know about you but bringing Clippard in in the 9th is no automatic win for us.  He hasn't looked sharp recently.
