In Oblivion I had a cleared ruin that I would nap in until I bought a house. That was when you had to sleep to level up, though.

I think that crappy shack outside the main city was the only house I ever bought or used

It was a cozy shack :mg:

Quote
Skyrim — what we’re working on

As of today, it’s been three weeks since we released Skyrim worldwide. We’re simply blown away by the response, from new and old fans, and amazed by the sheer number of people playing the game. It’s been absolutely fantastic hearing your stories, seeing early mods, and watching fan videos (more live music ones please, we love those).

We want to thank everyone reading this for playing our game and supporting all it tries to do. We wouldn’t have this success without you, and we want you to know we’re committed to making your Skyrim experience even better. And not just in the short term, but over the life of the game. Here’s a quick peek at what we’re working on right now:

Creation Kit  — Beginning in January, PC players will be able to download the same development tools we used at Bethesda Game Studios to create Skyrim. In tandem with the Creation Kit’s release, we will roll out a new Wiki and videos to help you get started. It also features something we think you’re going to love…

Steam Workshop – We’re excited to share news that we’ve been working closely with Valve to integrate Steam Workshop into the Creation Kit. Using the Workshop, you’ll have free user content with the push of a button. The Creation Kit will bundle your mod and upload it to the Workshop, where everyone can browse, rate, and flag mods for download. You’ll be able to do this from any web device, including your smartphone. Like a live Netflix queue, when you fire up Skyrim, mods you flagged will be automatically downloaded and installed. Everyone here is really excited about the opportunities and possibilities this opens up for our entire community.

Prefer to use existing modding sites? Not a problem. You’ll still be able to upload/share/access Skyrim mods on fan-created mod sites.

Continued Game Updates – This week we released update 1.2 across all platforms, and we’ll be releasing an incremental update next week. We anticipate it will be up on PC first, and then hit PS3 and Xbox 360 later in the week. Among other things, the update will fix issues like magic resistance not calculating properly and the rare, amazing backwards flying dragon. Once the update is released, we’ll share the full release notes.

After the holidays, we’ll continue to release regular updates for the game — through full title updates, as well as incremental “gameplay updates” to fix whatever issues come up along with rebalancing portions of the game for difficulty or exploits. We plan on having a lot of these, not just a few. Overall, you should expect updates to be hitting the PC and Steam earlier and more often, as that’s a process we control. Console updates will follow, as they must be certified and processed by those manufacturers.

We all know this is a huge game, and everyone has a different experience. We’ll continue to do everything we can to make the game better and better for as many people as possible every day. We’ve also realized that with the millions upon millions of people playing Skyrim, we need to treat our updates with greater care. If we get too aggressive trying to fix a minor issue, we run a risk of breaking something larger in a game like this. To be safe, we are prioritizing code side fixes right now over data fixes. Quest and balance issues are usually data, and those will start rolling in a large way with the January updates.

Thanks again for your continued support and patience. We truly have the best fans in the world, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Steam Workshop seems cool.  Easy handling of mods.  At least the whiners that were saying Bethesda was killing the modding community by patching the launcher to require Steam can STFU now.

I'm sure you all have heard a guard at least once say "I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow to the knee."

Here's the targets they use to train archers :lmao:

Yes, pretty sure it's shopped, still funny

Is anyone having issues with Steam and Skype interferring with each other? If so, have you found a way to fix it?

Longest we've gone without a post I'm sure.

Way too much of my time in this game is spent finding places to sell loot.

Store it for later.
Invest in the left side of the speech perk tree.
"Trade" it for training or other stuff you need.

There's definitely more loot than there is money, especially if you spend a lot of time wandering into random dungeons, but these things help at least.

NP.  Perk #3 up the left side is a huge help (sell anything to anyone).  The one above that (increase vendor gold by 500 permanently w/ investment) helps some as well, but it's a necessity if you're trying to get the top perk (all merchants +1000g).  For the most part I think #3 is the only "must have" perk.  The investment one is helpful but not huge, and the master perk is just too many perk points to spend on speech, IMO.  There's a "sell stolen goods" perk along the way, but I think it comes too late in the game to matter unless you're RPing a professional thief.

I love stuff like this:

Just a few crumbled ruins with a wayshrine "inside" that gives you a 10% barter increase for a few hours.  It's not even marked on the map.

Yeah...  I've never been a vampire in any of the TES games I've played (somehow) but from reading about it really does sound like a curse, and the benefits sound iffy.  Being a werewolf, on the other hand, sounds awesome.

I'm thinking about re-rolling soon...  being a level 42 fireball-chucking badass is cool and all, but I'm anxious to try something more up-close-and-personal.  Not to mention doing any of the other questlines at this point almost feels like cheating because I'm so powerful.  I bumped the difficulty up to expert a while back but it generally just means 1-2 extra blasts to kill something - though it does seem like I'm running into larger groups of enemies...  maybe I'm imagining that part.

FWIW, I'm having the same problem with an up-close-and-personal guy. I'm on expert and it's still pretty easy -- although I did run into a couple of tougher battles recently.

Are you still playing on expert or did you bump it up to master?  In fairness to Bethesda, I think they expect you to be kind of "over it" by level 40-50.  And it's not like ~120 hours is unreasonable to expect a character to have done everything that makes sense (i.e. main quest + a couple of guilds).  I suspect starting a new game on a higher difficulty from the outset will add to the challenge significantly.

I don't really enjoy doing it all in one playthrough anyway, so I guess it's good that the way things are set up make me want to start again with a new character.  I'd feel stupid blasting my way through the companion quests (aka fighter's guild) with a lv42 mage.  And let's face it...  everybody's complaint about Oblivion was that you never felt like a world-beating badass no matter how high your level got, so we got what we asked for

I tried to go straight to Master and it was a bit too hard. Maybe on my next playthrough.

I'm avoiding some of the quest lines with my character as well. I'm basically doing the civil war and main story line with this guy.

Are you doing stealth/thieving with your mage or just straight mage? Trying to picture what my next couple characters will look like. Besides barbarian, thief, mage, what else is left? Dual wield guy?

I'll occasionally sneak in order to make sure I get the first shot off and dictate the terms of an engagement, but I'm not doing sneak attacks or using bows or anything like that - my relevant skills and perks are all far too low for that to be effective vs just blasting them with a flame-rocket

My next two will surely be an Orc who smashes everything and a sneaky Khajiit assassin, but beyond that I think it's just a matter of mixing and matching complementary skills.
