I embarass myself all the time. Nothing new...

But what else would you name a squirrel?

"Killer"

Embarrassment is not an issue.   I'm way past that.   :)

Well, for me personally, I would call him Mr. Squirrel Nutkin.

When I was about five, my brothers rescued a baby squirrel that fell out of his nest. We had him for quite a while before releasing him. We named him... Chipper.

I'm guessing that you had little to do with the naming, or it would have been something along the lines of Simone the Tragic Consumptive Wench

Robins are back, and I've seen Chipmunks around more regularly.

I just saw a hawk in the back yard.

Can anyone recommend a setup for bird watching from the house? I have a lot of woods and you can get clear looks at the birds, but the binoculars are so wobbly. I saw a picture of some sort of tripod setup for bird watching before, but I have no idea what I'm looking for.

Robins never leave (seriously). :)

There's so much... find your local bird store and see when the bird walks are (many of them sponsor them). They usually bring the optics so you can try them out. We've got a couple of mid-range pairs of binocs, one wider angle and lower powered and one higher powered. My wife scans with the cheaper lower power one, then watches with the other. The spotting scope stays focused on a particular area, like feeders or interesting nests she's found in the yard. She uses a cheap table top tripod.

What about a monopod with an adapter on the binos for sweet optic/walking stick  combo

Took these pictures back in November and forgot they were on my camera. He's sitting on my bedroom windowsill.

In the first two, all he needs is a little magazine or newspaper to complete the "taking a dump" pose.

Not really "backyard" but I caught this guy stealing french fries out of a trash can. He has the ketchup evidence on his nose LOL.

I escorted a large blacksnake across the road this afternoon.  Now pay me back and go eat some rodents, bro!

I caught a gardener snake in my yard a few weeks ago. I showed it to the boy and then let it go where I found it.

Never heard of that.

Sure it wasn't a "garter" snake?

I have Ninja Squirrels in my backyard.

I've been seeing a lot of chipmunks and squirrels lately. Usually I only see about a half of one at a time, but the cat has been happy.

According to a wildlife specialist I know, squirrel mating season was in April/early May, so they've been especially active in recent weeks. Might explain why you've seen a lot of them recently.

That'd explain why last year one of our friendly squirrels disappeared around Memorial Day and showed up about ten days later a lot thinner. Evidently she must have been pregnant.

It took me until yesterday to figure out that my favorite backyard bird song (tweet tweet tweet tweet birdie! tweet tweet tweet tweet birdie! tweet twee tweet tweet BIRDIE BIRDIE BIRDIE BIRDIE BIRDIE BIRDIE BIRDIE BIRDIE BIRDIE BIRDIE BIRDIE!) was a male Cardinal.
