I had a coyote run off with my frisbee while playing ultimate on Burnaby Mountain
Oh.

Yeah I just don't think we have them. Just coyotes out the ass.

We have fox out the wazoo. Far fewer coyotes. Black bear are making their way back to the exburbs, too.

I've only seen a fox once in my life (Jug Bay in southern Murdaland) - surprised that they're common somewhere in the DMV.

We've had a litter of three kits raised under our shed.

Foxes.

The pic doesn't work, and I'm interested in seeing a bobcat.

I fixed the picture for Minty, and yes, it sure looks like a bobcat to me.

There are foxes in the woods here in Kingstowne, no doubt encouraged by the large deer population. Two young deer have been dining every morning on the plants out front of the house that's for sale across the street.

I think of foxes as preying on rodents, rabbits, the odd house cat, and what they can root out of people's compost piles. What kind of encouragement do you think the deer are offering?

My parents-in-law live on an island where someone (white people) shot all the predatory canines and felines a long time ago.

You have never seen more deer or rabbit in your life. It's a problem.

Let the food chain reign, that's what I say.

Thanks Tom. Looks like a fox in the early stages of mange.

I assumed they preyed on deer. I don't really know—it was just an assumption.

Obviously that little feral cat seen in my earlier posts in this thread has avoided any foxes in the area since she's still showing up every night (been coming since July 2014). She still bolts from any prospect of human contact, too; the night my neighbor and I were both out at our grills at the same time led to the cat bolting down my deck railing (not even the deck surface) in apparent absolute terror. Poor thing.

I don't see a fox taking down a deer. Unless they pack hunt.

My dad's neighbourhood is way up on a hill in Colorado, pretty much on the edge of town in the front range.  They have warning signs about mountain lions all over the place...don't leave your kid outside unattended, etc.  Nom nom nom

Foxes are 25-30 pounds tops.

Feral Cats are smart and tough. A fox would have to be really hungry to be willing to take that chance. Glad that yours is a survivor!

I'm with Terp.  I think it's a bobcat.  Haven't seen it again since and bobcat are indigenous to the area (I live on the edge of Adirondack State Park).  They aren't super-common but they aren't endangered either.

There haven't been reports of mange running rampant around here but one wildlife organization said that distemper is.  Make sure the cats are up-to-date with those shots, etc.

EDIT:

By the way, thanks for fixing that pic, Terp!
