the sell out streak will end a year after it should because almost the whole arena is sold on a season ticket basis. they'll get a one year grace period during which they can make themselves relevant again.

and i'm not so sure people will tune out because of the skins and nats success. nats fans who experienced the playoff atmosphere might be looking for their live exciting sports fix before next october. that is kinda how i got into united after the caps 2008 playoffs. i couldnt sit idle. i needed a distraction until next hockey season while the nats and their atmosphere blew

I could see people able to only support one team from a financial stand point (which is what Ted cares about).  What I'm surprised about is how little any media outlet seems to care about this lockout

The draught cups at VC during the Hershey Bears game on 06 Dec are going to be full of all kinds of microbial madness walking dead goo.  I guess there will have been Wiz and Hoyas games, but they all drink vodka/merlots and courvoisier & cokes.  Maybe there will be some jurassic rock show to flush the beer lines out.

Wizards' last home match before that date will have been the 4th (Miami); Hoya Suxa will not have been there since 30th November.

And up in the 400's we Wizards STH (all three of us) don't drink those kind of high-end drinks...in fact except for 'big' nights there isn't much open in terms of concessions at all at Wizards matchnights.

Ugh, just saw a headline on BSPN's website that the Winter Classic is probably kaput.  This season won't happen, will it?  freak, I'm so sad and so pissed.  Bettman has reached Bud Selig territory for me.

if you were forecasting taxes received from dc sports attendance at the beginning of the year, you might still be positive due to the nats unexpected increased attendance plus three sellout home games, if the lockout doesnt last much longer. more locally, gallery place might be feeling some pain.

That's about the clearest sign that the league is mailing it in for the entire season.

Pretty much - and probably before this month is out the All-Star Game (Columbus, 26th-27th January) will be taken off too. If any semblance of a 2012-13 NHL season is salvaged I'd be frankly shocked.

So NHL contracts aren't worth the paper they're printed on in other words.

Too bad he can't take a hard line on not gorging at the buffet and going overboard with the Mystic Tan.

If Ted is a hardliner, then good. He should realize how important this season is for his team. Saving some millions in salary wont help much when the DC area forgets the Caps exist. RG3, Nats, and maybe even DC United has a boom if they get a stadium in 2 or 3 years.  Plus the Caps have two centers this year. Ted can't be this dumb

Positive spin on WC cancellation. The owners just shot the players' hostage. Much less leverage for the players at this point. Who you trying to get crazy with, ese? Dont you know I'm loco?

our only hope for a Caps' cup is for Ted to sell the team. sigh...

you know how they always show Ted on the scoreboard during big games/wins/etc? I wonder if they do that whenever a season starts again. Would be hilarious to see an arena booing the man who claims everyone loves him and he is amazing and better than every other owner ever.

Officially this latest action only takes off the Winter Classic - the other fixtures from 1st December onward still officially remain scheduled (although I'll agree that the long-term prognosis for salvaging the 12-13 season doesn't look good).

the owners have made another offer. makes sense. the dynamic has changed with the winter classic canceled. the players leverage has decreased. get another offer out there and see if these guys want to start getting paid and stop jerking around.

if the gap before was small/moderate, it has just become a little smaller. players scope of an acceptable deal has widened and the owners just came a little closer

The players have Fehr this time,  until the owners realize they can't break the union like last time,  there won't be a deal.  I also think that after having the owners back out of the last deal so quickly,  that the players will be less inclined to negotiate

Listened to an interview with Fehr today.   Didn't sound real positive.
