Nats at Phils 9/2/2013
« Topic Start: February 14, 2013, 09:23:44 PM »
So I was given tickets to the Nats-Phils game at CBP on 9/2, is anyone else thinking of making this trip?  This will be my first trip to CBP, for those who have been there how's the game day experience?  Are the filly fans really a pain or is it more rep?  I've ventured into Shea alone decked out in Nats gear and didn't have any problems so I figure as long as I don't act like a jackass it should be okay.

Also if anyone knows of any decent hotels I'd appreciate it (yeah, yeah I know, it's Philly, how nice could any place up there possibly be....)

i was a season ticket holder at phillies games for years. really depends on who you are sitting next to. But Ive seen fights break out between rival fans. Just dont be one of those guys who wears a nats jersey, stand up and yells "Up yours Utley!"...you are just asking for it. lol.  But for the most part philly fans are just passionate. They just dont like opposing fans if they talk crap on their turf.  you should be fine. as for hotels, the #1 hotel to stay at is the best western. you can literally walk to the park from there. althought it can be pricey. If that is a weekend game, i might go. I love  that ballpark.

btw, if you have a problem with anyone in the stands, just go to customer service and they will change your seat for you. they are really good like that. But I wouldnt expect you to have  a hard time. maybe a heckle or two, but nothing big. it will be fun! And make sure to eat Tony Luke's cheesesteak and chickie n petes crabfries. delish!

Rick, thanks for the info.  Yeah, I expect some ribbing and a little smack,  I got that from the Mets fans at Shea, but it was all good natured.

It looks like I'm going to be in PA for the summer, so I might be interested in coming. I'd rather be with a group of Nats fans rather than going alone.

Last time I went I got some really annoying jeering and a little namecalling, but the usher told the idiots to shut it.

(and btw- they will be too busy booing Werth to pay attention to you. haha.)  the worst ive ever seen it-- and it wasnt bad at all-- I went to the last game of the 2010 NLCS where the Giants beat the Phils. Giants fans walked around the stadium wearing these stupid brian wilson beards...i saw them get heckled, nothing bad- but they stood out.

Better watch out, Nats 320 almost got his ass beat when he went up to support Our Washington Nationals.

The abuse started well before we stepped foot into Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Walking out of the Chesapeake House Rest Area on Interstate 95N in Maryland taking a short break from the drive north--some old man in a Phillies Cap yells over: "You can't possibly be heading to The Phillies Game today wearing that crap!!" Yeah, I responded (Sohna and I wearing Our Washington Nationals Gray Away Jerseys). Of course we are, we support our team."

The Old Geezer responds: "You are going to get MURDERED THERE!!"

Two 10 Year Old Kids, WITH THEIR PARENTS WATCHING AND LAUGHING--came so close to slapping Sohna in the face screaming at her--if they had--World War Three WAS ABOUT TO BEGIN.

Wow, this is such gold.

I'll say that Phillies phans have been my worst experience ever (in DC, btw) but Nats 320 really has a way with words.

Yeah, I've always taken that w/a grain (read ton) of salt.....A Cardinals fan buddy of mine was @ CBP for the NLDS finale in 2011 and had no trouble whatsoever.

My brother would go without gear when he lived in PA. He is not a small dude whatsoever but did not want the hassle I guess. I think he wore a hat and that's it.

Most of the article is pretty awful if it's accurate. But the reporting style still cracks me up.

Yeah I figured I wouldn't go all decked out, maybe sport a curly W polo at most, but I wasn't going to push it.  The wife is also going.

Yeah, he was with his ex GF and her family. Sometimes you don't want to risk the awkward situation.

im telling you its not that bad. I was all decked out in (gasp) phillies gear at yankees stadium during the 2009 world series and i say i got one or two comments tops. I was expecting a LOT worst.  seriously- philly fans get a bad rap. you should be fine..go and have a great time!

That's because Philly fans are like dogs. They can sense fear.

It can be bad. I've seen them give their own fans a rough time. You get a few drunks, they egg on a few more drunks, and next thing you know, you've got trouble. Last time I was there. Some of the upstanding Pholdelphians were picking on some kid (12yo?) in the winning, visiting team's jersey, and the two cops standing nearby thought it was hilarious.

I'd also add that come September 2, the Nats may be way ahead of the Phil's in the standings. Might be an empty park... Or an angry crowd.

I challenge anyone who thinks its a bad rap to test it. Catch a Flyers games in a Rangers jersey. Catch an Iggles game in a Cowboy/Giant/Redskin jersey.

I've been in Nats gear. It's no different than any other stadium. You have an equal chance of being near an obnoxious drunk at Nats Park or FedEx.
