what if someone offers him an absurd deal? Should the Brewers and Cards have tried to match this year? The odds of some team offering more years an money that common sense dictates are pretty high if you look at some of the recent superstar signings

he's going to get an enormous contract, but he's likely going to get it earlier than someone like pujols, which makes the risk a little bit less. we'll have to overpay in FA, just like everyone else. if he's really dead set on leaving, he'll turn it down. i just dont think money should be an excuse not for signing him

I think we have a better chance of keeping Strasburg, even though I can see him wanting to pitch on the left coast at some point in his career. It's all speculation at this point thought. Hell, Harper may never be as good as the hype and Stras might turn into Prior 2.0. I'm just happy that we have Gio G. locked up for a while. We got him at the right time.

Hopefully he's as old school as he says he is and sticks with one team like his idols Pete Rose and Mickey Mantle did.

Stephen Strasburg pitching in San Diego would get 10 wins a year but post the lowest ERA in world history.

LOL! I didn't even think about him pitching in Petco. You're right.

Do it! Put in every quarter into this thing. Bryce Harper must stay a National!

Pete Rose didn't stick with just one team...

True forgot about the Phillies, but he spent the majority of his career there.

This kid is one of the best I've ever seen (and I've been around a long time).  I just want to enjoy him right now.  He just got here for heaven's sake!  Every time he plays, he brings magic.  To me, when he stole home on Hamels, I knew he was extra-special.  The time will come to try and re-sign him.  I know it's certainly no given, he'll stay with Washington.  But we got him first.  And I'm counting the minutes to gametime tonight!

Whatever dude I'm only 18, whenever I hear or see highlights of Rose it's when he's on the Reds or helping the Phillies win a championship.

I'm not trying to be rude... just letting you know how many teams Rose played for.

Biggest difference is Pujols is 33, Fielder is 29. Bryce will still be 26....

absurd deal is for a given player- the odds of some team coming in with a crazy high number are pretty good (what if a team with a crazy old owner like the current tigers offers 20 years?)

Sign them all now: Strassburg, Zimmermann, Harper. Market them. Win a couple of pennants. The Redskins have been popular, even though they have fielded lousy teams lately, except for a few years of Joe Gibbs, and one or two season s in the late '90s. The Nats can be just as popular.

Not foregone I expect us to get maybe one of him and Strassburg long term, but i'd be shocked if both he and Stras resign

Who knows... don't let it get to you. Enjoy the ride... plenty of time to think about this YEARS from now! :)

I'll admit to mild paranoia about it. I am 29 years old. He is my Son's Mickey Mantle. Not too much pressure

I cannot envision Harper finishing his career with us.  Between the Yankees being his favorite team and Boras being his agent I think we're screwed.

I do think we have a decent shot at keeping Strasburg since this organization favors pitching over position players (at least that apears to be the track record).

I think I would be happy just keeping him through his best years, if he leaves Washington at 32 or so like Pujols did, I'd be fine with that. That means he will have given us 11 or 12 seasons.... I would sign up for that right now in fact.

So I guess this thread should be about keeping Harper in Washington until he's 30.

Maybe if we start a fund now..... yea that won't work.
