If someone asked me last season whether I would ever in this mortal lifetime see Bergmann a) be a big league starter in April, b), protect a lead through (at least) the 6th, and c), do this more than once before May, I would have responded with

So this is a pretty nice surprise

I feel Bergman is getting stronger. He has another inning in him, I think, I hope. We just need him to keep his head on straight and not lose focus. He needs to remain aggresive in the strike zone and not revert to nibbling because he made a mistake and someone popped him.

Sometimes you just miss your spots or your breaking balls don't break the way you need them to. The key is to take advantage of a pitcher's mistakes when they make them. Good teams make teams pay for mistakes. The Nationals struggle to make pitchers pay for their mistakes. They usually foul away those pitches.
the question is when do our pitchers learn not to make the mistake and when do our hitters learn how to take advantage?

Witht eh pitchers it's a mixture of talent, experience and luck. With our hitters it's all about talent and experience.

Speaking of luck, will we ever get some of the good variety?

That's just incredibly unlucky. They did things right there. They just need to accept that and keep plugging away.

OT but how are you guys enjoying the weather in DC? I saw that it was 81 today. Nice, it's 60 here in Buffalo.

I would prefer some more days in low 70s for a while longer.

It was about time we got rid of winter.

So much for the lead. Too much injustice for Bergman.

Couldn't Bergmann have gone another inning? Show some faith in the guy he's pitched so well the last few starts.

And Saul leaves another breaking ball right down the middle.. What a ****ing loser.  Why would Manny put him in such a close game?

They took him out too soon last time too.  He's never going to learn to give 7 innings if he never does it.

Well now Saul has the top of the order to deal with with 1 out and runner on 2nd. Good luck.

Couldn't Bergmann have gone another inning? Show some faith in the guy he's pitched so well the last few starts.

The assumption is that he was starting to leave the ball up. But I would trusted him to go with his moving fastball to start the inning. Oh well. Manny said before the season that he would be taking out pitchers early for the first part of the season. I think that he has made his point. Now it is time to stretch guys like Bergmann and Hill a bit.
