2011 - 12 offseason for other teams
« Topic Start: October 30, 2011, 03:49:10 PM »
Since the MLB thread is season to season, I figrued something ought to be started for other teams moves - trades, FAs not coming to Washington, hirings, firings, retirements, etc...

so, from CBS Sportsline:
Quote
News: RP Joe Nathan filed for free agency on Sunday. The Twins, who turned down his $12.5 million option on Tuesday to make him a free agent, have expressed an interest in bringing him back, and according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Nathan hasn't ruled out the possibility. But according to the New York Daily News, he also has interest in joining the Mets. "The Mets are a team on our radar for sure, but until we talk with them we can’t be sure how well we fit," Nathan said Saturday. "I know what playing in New York is about and I know how passionate the fans are about the teams they like. ... I was a Met fan growing up and my friends from the area are giving me pressure to give them strong consideration.”

Analysis: Nathan struggled in his first year back from Tommy John surgery, but he seemed to improve over the course of the season, going 11 for 11 in save opportunities with a 3.91 ERA in the second half. Though he may no longer be an elite closer at age 36, his experience in the role will likely land him a closing gig in 2012. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has already suggested the Mets will pursue a closer in free agency after Bobby Parnell failed in his late-season audition, so a move to New York would make sense for Nathan. Plan on drafting him as a No. 2 Fantasy RP.
