Two teams with bad stadiums?

That's not a good look.

That's taking a non-controversial stance on the possible move of the Suns.

There would be *nothing* to do in Hagerstown without the Suns.
Winchester,Va may be trying lure Suns out of Hagerstown

I can't see them moving to VA. Winchester could not support a minor league team. This is just posturing on the part of the owners. They are trying to get some improvements to the stadium.

winchester couldn't support a low-A team?  I think they could pull in fans like myself in the Gainesville area who would go there rather than to Potomac.

From where I am: 267 -> Rt 7. One of my favorite drives in the area.

I don't see them drawing any more than what Hagerstown already draws. Like I said, I think it's just the owners trying to get some concessions from the City of Hagerstown. The stadium in Hagerstown is really old. I believe it was built in the 1920s. They could use a new stadium, but I can't see that happening with the economy being in the shape that it is.

Why would then need a new stadium? There's plenty of room there.

They do beer specials all the time, which I think is the biggest draw for the citizens of Hagerstown.  It's low A for crap's sake.

Like I said, the stadium is old as hell. I'm not saying that they need a new one, but I can see someone luring them away by building a new park somewhere. I just don't see Winchester being that place. BTW, Their draft beers there are awesome.

I think they are $1.25.  They also have some kind of food promotion with all you can eat select concession items.  I'm guessing hot dogs and pretzels or something similar.  Not bad for a $10 ticket.

A team in Winchester would draw from nearby towns in VA and WV such as Harper's Ferry, Charles Town, etc.  I think that when that entire area is considered it is sufficiently large to support a low A team.

Though note that Harper's Ferry is as close to Hagerstown as it is to Winchester, and Martinsburg is even closer to Hagerstown.

I have put together a document that has stories related to Hagerstown Suns possibly relocating to Winchester that should help the Tri-State media outlets figure out if this thing has any legs to it or not.

Nice compilation, thanks.

I would find it hard to believe Winchester would ante up for a new ballpark in this era of austerity.  Likewise for Hagerstown, a $9-$10m renovation is quite a bit to swallow.

Right, but if a new stadium is built in Winchester it would probably be a more desirable location for the team, and for fans, than the current stadium in Hagerstown.

I think the H'town owners are using Winchester as leverage to get H'town city officials to make a commitment to the owners wants on a new stadium or renovations.

BUT ... since no public official in Winchester is commenting at the present time and the EDA is spending approx $12k on a feasibility study ... who knows??

Time will tell!
