Jageler was mentioning just now basically how we ended up with LaRoche - the Nats and Orioles were both in the hunt for Lee...Orioles sign Lee...LaRoche is the only first baseman left...we're the only team left needing a first baseman...so we get LaRoche.

Yup.  This was mentioned in last night's game thread.

Heck, I have a messy house to clean up.   Don't know why I'm watching this.

Wasn't Kotchman still available?

Jageler didn't mention him (I was merely repeating what he said)...wasn't following the situation all that closely at that time myself.

I've never liked LaRoche.  That he's obviously injured and not going in for surgery only adds to that dislike.

Minus what we know now about the torn shoulder, I would have picked LaRoche. Give me .260 avg and 20 or 25 HR...this team would be fine. In spite of the shoulder, he fields splendidly. OTOH, give me a .1q60 BA and this hurts.

LaR->DL

Try Cora and Marrero + anybody for Stairs.

You think Slowes and Jageler read WNFF?

Once Lee and Pena were gone it could have been anyone.  It's too bad he's injured.

Well Snyder redeems himself a bit for that boo-boo he made in the field that got us our two runs - his first big-league base hit in front of all those friends and family from Centreville.

Lannan is OK. Not great, but OK. Year before last, OK was splendid. This year, it's still "good enough". Next year...well, maybe Strasburg pitches a half-season. Zimmermann is stronger and maybe pitches smarter with this year's experience.

Lannan stays until somebody is better.

Orioles bullpen has aggregate 9.27 ERA over last four matches, per Slowes...come on Nats, let's get into it!
