At the time of my post, we were 3 1/2 games ahead of the Braves. I thought we were 2 1/2.
If the Mets had taken the series (and, it turns out, we were somewhat lucky to win the first two) and the Braves take three out of four from us this weekend, Atlanta would be in first - not us.
Even so, our lead could have easily dropped to just a half-game.
The Mets have the worst bullpen in baseball. There's nothing "lucky" about scoring runs on them. That's how they roll. If anything the Mets were lucky for catching Gio on an extremely rare bad day. And Atlanta's pitching stinks. It will be a lot harder for the Braves to catch the Nats than it will be for the Nats to stay in first place.
