I now have something at least close to modern in a smart phone. Droid Razr M running 4.1.2. As soon as I figure this mother out I'll be fine. !st mistake- synching to my PC for music. Damn thing filled up the phone's memory and now I can't update any apps. Have to go through and remove them one by one. But I really like it so far.
If you have a MicroSD card, you can move the music there.

I have a LG G Flex through AT&T. Any must have apps I should be looking for? Also, is there a app or something to help remotely locate/lock my phone should I lose it? I had one but it ate the crap out of my battery. I deleted it for that reason.

I'm pretty impressed with the Nexus 5.  9hrs off the charger (granted only 10 minutes screen on time) and I'm at 95% battery.

My Straight Talk (AT&T sim) gets pretty good speeds on LTE, about equal to my cable internet.  Around 20 down and 5-7 up.  The only problem is that on LTE I get 2 to 3 bars (mostly 2) on ground level and 1-2 bars when in my downstairs gaming/rec room (about 50/50). Decent, but it could be better.  It's very slightly less than I got on Verizon LTE.

When I turned off LTE I got rock solid full bars of HSPA and speeds were around 9 down and 1 up. Perfectly usable for pet much everything whereas when I lost LTE on Verizon I was on horrible evdo does and even browsing the net was tedious.  I haven't decided on whether I'll keep LTE on our go HSPA.  I'd be worried about battery life impacts with lower reception, but at 9 hours for 5% in my game room on LTE, that seems fine.

Straight talk for anyone unaware is an MVNO that uses AT&T, Tmo, sprint, and Verizon towers (so ALL of the carriers) depending on the device you buy.  I specifically ordered an AT&T sim card because the Nexus 5 only works on AT&T and Tmo, and my Tmo coverage is horrible.  It's prepaid and my basic plan is $45 for 30 days, unlimited talk and text, and "unlimited" data.  The catch is that you get 3GB at full speeds and then you get throttled until your 30 day period is over.  Not bad since I've never even got close to my Verizon 4GB limit (after which you got charged a fee for each increment of more data).  Pretty happy so far.

yes this.

spend the 20 bucks to get the radio feeds.

I have a couple of OnePlus One invites if anyone is interested.

Google it if you're unfamiliar. Must be ready to purchase.

If I didn't already have a Nexus 5 I would be, it's a damned nice looking phone with awesome specs and CyanogenMod preinstalled.

Did you buy one? How does it compares to Nexus 4 or 5?

The main concern is that their customer service is nonexistent and if something happens to the phone you are on your own.

Yes, if something goes wrong you are boned.

I guess I have that yellow band issue which I didn't even notice for like a month. Otherwise everything has been great with the phone. Some random Cyanogen Mod issues, nothing major.

CM is just so nice. I was happy with vanilla android but CM is the best phone experience I've had yet. Love it.

Google Fit is available on the Play Store for everyone running 4.0 or higher - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.fitness

You can also access it from the web - https://fit.google.com/

Hard to say how useful it's going to be without accessory hardware.  Right now it seems to only classify things as walking, running, biking, or "other", and I've noticed it backtracking multiple times on the supposed number of steps I've taken today.  And not by small amounts either (close to 100 steps each time).

if it integrates with third party non-android wear accessories like fitbit and jaw bone and third party apps like map my run it will be great- I like the layout and the presentation of information seems more logical than fitbit

I've got my first android device - a Samsung Galaxy S5.  Still trying to figure this thing out.  Like how to kill some of the ads that pop up (like Amazon).

go through your apps and disable things you won't be using - that should help - how are the ads popping up (I've never had that)- if it's in browser, you can give Opera or Dolphin a shot
