It's insane. The only other reason I can think of for a ref to throw his hat is if someone went out of bounds on a play that's still active. Such as a pass play or punt etc...

They throw their hat sometimes if they catch multiple infractions but I don't know that that was the case on the play in question. Are we sure that it was a refs' hat that was thrown?

Spidernat the ball was moved back 20 yards because the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the mystery Redskins' player was called after a false start, of which the Bengals (and CBS commentators) erroneously assumed that game was over, due to the 10-second runoff rule which did not apply in this situation, due to the clock being stopped. That being said, these refs are a bunch of jackwagons in over their heads. The referees were the last bastion of civility and sportsmanship in the NFL. I now declare this league to be in a state of utter chaos.

I'll hand it to Baltimore's offense (Cameron and Flacco).  They figured out in the 4th quarter that the refs were calling a lot of illegal contact calls and started lobbing those high arching throws, guessing they'd get a call downfield if they did it 2 or 3 times in a series.  Really some WTF calls last night, but most favored the Pats until the 4th q.

Spidernat the ball was moved back 20 yards because the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the mystery Redskins' player was called after a false start,

Wrong. They walked off a total of 25 yards including the false start. The ball went from the Bengals 34 all the way back to the Redskins 41 for a total of 25 yards. The false start was on Fred Davis and the unsportmanlike penalty was on Kyle Shanahan. Those two penalties combined should've amounted to a total of 20 yards. Instead those idiots ended up penalizing Washington an extra 5 yards after they not only lost control of the game but also added to the confusion by at least one referee saying that the game was over because he didn't know the rules.

That was the worst pass interference call I've ever seen.

I'm sure it'll only get worse.

There was a worse one earlier against the Seahawks that extended the drive that led to the Packer TD.

That was really bad, but I think the call on the Packers was worse because it actually should have been called against the WR.

I HATE the fade on 4th down.

I hate the fade on 3rd and 4th downs. I also despise lateral passes behind the line of scrimmage on short distance downs.

I don't even remember making one  but I've used both melatonin and valerian root.  I prefer valerian - melatonin can wreck you the next day.

I HATE the fade on 4th down.

So dumb.  Everyone expects it.

I almost wonder if Green Bay should have taken a safety there.  I know it sounds crazy, but it's going to be tough to get a decent punt out of the end zone, and I doubt the Seahawks could make a long field goal given the field conditions right now.

Anything slow developing I hate.

Give me an I form handoff up the middle. As long as it's a blast... don't give me a draw, or a counter or a stretch play.

They are slow to develop and never seem to catch the defense off-guard.

Also don't like that they didn't just spike it and ended up wasting 10-15 seconds on the incomplete pass.

Not only was it offensive pass interference but that's an interception. What a disaster.

I agree with you. I thought the same thing. If they had taken a safety the Seahawks would've been down 3. A team is much more desperate when down by more than 3 points and will attack the endzone on all 4 downs whereas they would be more content to try a field goal to extend the game.
