OK, so who saw a snowflake yesterday and where?  let's see how far north this thing actually got.

I saw one in Tysons on the way home last night.  It was about 39 degrees at the time.

Nothing in South Arlington that I saw.  Maybe on Arlington Ridge Road, but I can't afford to go up there.

You on the lam?   :)    We can afford to go.   We just can't afford to stay.

on the lam?  Nah, but there is a toll booth on 23d when you go up the hill . . .

OK, stray snowflake isn't the best test.

How far south did you have to go to have a coating of snow you could step on?

latest GFS shows NO SNOW south of NJ, and a couple of inches north, but NAM model continues to show a lot of snow.

here's the latest NAM:

Hard to believe that yesterday the temp in Downtown DC was COLDER than Alaska was.

Snow today, very slick very dangerous. I have an unexpected day off cause the snow was too slick. Turned onto my street and slammed into the curb. I'm OK and my car is OK (I think). NO apparent damage (no leaks, nothing appears bent out of shape). Not sure how the public transport is handling the snow today. Will try taking Metro tomorrow if things are OK.

Surprisingly, in my area of MoCo, the main roads were clear and de-iced. Slushy in spots, but not bad overall. And it was in the 20s, which compared to yesterday, is beautiful weather. The snow was nice and powdery, easy to clean the car off.

a few flakes here in western PWC, supposed to get an inch or so.  And of course, all PWC schools close 1 hour early.

Started about 1/2 hour ago in Eastern Loudoun.   Loudoun closed early as well  ...   made it to the ABC store.

Of course, the fan or the heating coil on my electric furnace kicked out yesterday evening.  Temp was set down yesterday when I went to work, but was still struggling, and when I flipped it up when I was home, the fan stopped after 30 minutes.   It was down to 56 when I left for work today.  Would have liked to seen the 65- 70 degrees today.  Hoping to get it repaired this afternoon.

These are the kind of days that if my furnace had to go, I'm "glad" it went in November.       Still payin' for it though.

It's been snowing here since about 11am or so. A powdery snow that is easy to shovel though. Sadly, I've shoveled once already and am going to be at it again later.

NWS predicting severe thunderstorms for a large swath the of the SE, including VA, for Jan 30th, could potentially spin up tornadoes as well.

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/exper/day4-8/

This is the kind of weather pattern you normally see in the spring, and it is going to be in the 60's next week.

Wearing my polypropelene undershirt, a wool sweater, and a baseball cap in my still-unheated condo.  It only gets down to 55, so it is pretty tolerable except for the hands.

I end up spending a lot of time at CCSP rather than in my condo in order to find heat.  Yes, that is why.  Believe me.  I'm a lawyer and if you can't trust a lawyer . . .

Will the government go unscheduled leave?   What's your wager?

I win!

Government wants no cars on road until after 10 or unscheduled leave.

hold on to your hats:

Quote
As the front rushes east Wednesday, downpours and storms will be able to tap into very high winds just above the surface and bring them down to the surface in heavier downpours. The second diagram shows forecast windspeeds above the surface on Wednesday afternoon, with the area circled in red reflecting where gusts could exceed 50mph at the surface. This are includes southeastern New England including Boston, the New York City metro area, Philadelphia, Washington, DC and Baltimore, and south along coastal Virginia and North/South Carolina. Some gusts may even exceed 74mph, which would make them hurricane-force: the threat of these types of winds are greatest over the DelMarVa area and New Jersey.

Already winds in the 80s in Missouri.  Here's a map of likely storm activity:

going to be an interesting afternoon/evening, brunt of the storm gets to the D.C. area around 7 PM.  Already pretty windy.
