Back in the beer dark ages Anchor and Sam were like the only decent US beers on the national market.

Bought sixes of two beers I had somehow never had, Anchor Steam and New Belgium 1554. Anchor Steam tastes like the ideal beer for a ballgame at Arlington: when it's stinking hot out and you need something sweet and light to feel better about how much you're sweating to watch baseball. I will keep it till it gets warmer outside. 1554 on the other hand... flat-out awesome. A bit of a poor man's St Bernardus, but then again, I am a poor man, and St Bernardus doesn't come in six-packs.

Swung by Total Wine at Landmark on my way in to the office today (quicker than hitting it on the way home)... they had the leinie's Sunset Wheat on the shelves.

I bought some DC Brau Public Ale there on Thursday, pretty good stuff, very hoppy, although after almost 20 years of drinking Sierra Nevada, Tuppers Hop Pocket, and various IPAs, my taste for hoppy beer seems to have strangely waned.

Well then how can a beer with black in its title be both golden and amber?

You obviously haven't spent much time with marketing folks.  Corinthian leather, anyone?

Too logical for marketing.   Also I am far from a beer expert.

Yeah but Black Crown is both amber and golden.  Btw, its crown is white not black.  ;)

What are the odds whoever came up with that even knows what malt is?

A little off topic but my sister called to tell me that there's a close out sale at Food Lion in Centreville and beer and wine just went on sale for 75% off regular price.   I ended up getting 2 cases of Beck's, 1 case of Corona Extra, 1 case of Corona Light, 2 cases of Michelob Ultra, 1 case of Miller Lite and 4 champagnes bottles for a little over $50. My brother and his girlfriend ended up buying over $100 worth of brew and wine so they ended up with twice as much as I did.   :glug:
