No. Diamonds are an item with manufactured desirableness created by diamond companies that have also created ad campaigns that have reinforced the idea of diamonds symbolizing love so much that we don't even question it anymore. It's a social construct, and it causes materialism and it sucks.

Diamonds really aren't my thing. He got me a beautiful amethyst necklace with some very cool silver work from a shop in our neighborhood.
