I've tried ignoring the game just to minimize any jinxing...doesn't help.

Clinch today then shut it down. Play for #2.

I just can't believe the Nats are going to do this.  This is so awesome.

I say BS, the Nats take the best record because they're the best team and don't care who they play.  Besides, the playoffs are such a crapshoot might as well take homefield since it's the one sure thing.

I just can't believe the Nats are going to do this.  This is so awesome.

F the NLDS.  I want home for NLCS v. the Reds if it comes to it.

More or less, both Jordan and Gio could go Sunday if that is game 1.  Davey has said he'd like to line up righties for St. L and lefties for ATL.  It more or less comes down to who would line up  as the potential game 1 & 5 starter.  Since either Jordan or Gio I think could line up for that slot, we can live with the uncertainty of who we play.  If we play SF, at SF, we have to go Jordan then Gio because Gio will be on short rest.

I'm all for giving the guys a rest, pulling the starters early, giving the regulars a day off, but we've got a two to three day rest coming anyway and we want to don't want to ice them.

Plus, just to be greedy as a fan, I want the extra home games.

Yep. This is what's important. Playing SF vs. the WC winner can be argued either way but getting home field advantage vs. Reds could be huge.

Put the metal to the pedal, boys. Win the #1 seed and kick the WC winner's ass and then you're set.

I'm totally with Ray on this, I'd rather play the Braves (Hudson, Hanson, Minor, Medlen) or whatever the Cards or Brewers would throw out there than I would the Giants Cain, Bumgardner, Lincecum right out of the gate.  Can't understand the thinking about not wanting the #1 seed.  That's not the mentality I want my team playing with.  Teams need to try and figure out how to match up with us (and they are), not the other way around.  We've been the best team in baseball for most of the season, no reason to torpedo that with 4 games left.

Primarily, I'd prefer the Nationals don't play an NL east team in the NLDS. I think this rule change is a bit of crap and don't like it one bit. If the Nats need to play the Barves, it should be in the NLCS. I also think giving the Barves a chance to cool off a bit from their torrid run of the last few weeks might also be a help. The Nats are coming out of their mini slump and playing alright and moving towards good/great again. Need to play other teams on the downswing.

The Giants, Reds and whoever the Braves will face are not teams that are on a down swing.  They're all playing well.  When you get to the playoffs, you face, who you face, avoiding a divisional opponent is sillier to me than arranging it so they don't in the NLDS.  Take the one seed, let the other team use their ace, this isn't a hard decision, that's significantly more preferable than going west to face the Giants with a fresh rotation.

Hanrahan blows the save, Pirates need to pull this one out in order to get anything positive out of the day for the Nats.

...they didn't - 20th consecutive losing season clinched (and Reds now pull even with Nats at 96 wins).

I'm guessing about half the starters get a day off tomorrow and the other half get Wednesday.  Almost guarantee Flores gets the start tomorrow.

I agree. At least rest Morse, Ryan Z, Espinosa. Maybe others.

Start Lombo, Tracy, Tyler Moore (1B or LF), Bernadina, maybe Corey Brown and even Perez.
