This was a nice writeup of the Valentine hiring - http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/baseball-insider/post/hiring-bobby-valentine-a-huge-risk-for-red-sox--but-a-necessary-one/2011/11/30/gIQA455jCO_blog.html

The best part:
-----------
It is entirely possible Valentine, 61, will be exactly what the Red Sox need, given the obvious lack of clubhouse discipline that marked the end of the Francona regime. He has a huge personality – smart and smart-alecky. He can be slick, and he can be abrasive, and he knows which situations call for which. He has none of Francona’s self-deprecating modesty, but his players also won’t have any doubts as to who is in charge.

Still, the risk with Valentine is significant. He is an inherently political animal, highly skilled at building alliances and using them to his benefit. But when those alliances unravel, as tends to happen when a team vastly underperforms, it can go bad quickly. Valentine’s history is littered with clashes with both his players and his bosses. Putting him in the media-driven, high-intensity fishbowl of Fenway Park only heightens the scrutiny and the pressure.

According to reports, the giants are looking to deal either Ramon Ramirez or Jeremy affeldt.  I reall hope the mats go for affeldt

He's a vegetarian, bro.

Vegetarian != Vegan.  Some Vegetarians will still eat seafood, just not land animals.  Some also eat eggs and dairy.  Vegans eat nothing animal based, including cheese, and they won't even wear shoes that are made of leather.

I eat all the delicious animals, tho :P.... :? .... :| ..... :(

Rockies are going to sign Ramon Hernandez. They are also trading Chris Ianetta to the Angels for Tyler Chatwood. Chatwood has some stats that look uniquely frightening, but he's only twenty-one. Nice deal for both teams in my opinion.

Deal just went down.

Colorado's rotation will be fun to watch develop with Pomeranz, White and Chatwood in the fold.

Good for them.   I hope it works out better for them than it did for the O's.  Relying on several young arms is asking for disappointment.

A vegetarian who eats fish is not a vegetarian. A fish is an animal. The term for someone who eats a vegetarian diet plus fish is a pescatarian.

I know what a pescetarian is, being friends with one, but she still says "vegetarian" when describing herself

Sure, because if you start getting into all the granularity of what you'll eat or what you won't eat, a normal person's eyes will begin to glaze over and they're looking for the nearest exit.

Don't bore me with your food phobias.

Pet peeve. That makes it hard on the rest of us to explain our dietary decisions... or "food phobias"

Like I said, I'll eat any animal pretty much

It does surprise me the Prince is the size he is if he's a pure vegetarian.  Too many carbs or what?

Triple veggie burgers.  :D

I actually wish I knew the specifics of his diet. It's as possible to be an unhealthy vegetarian as it is to be an unhealthy omnivore. Carbs, processed soy products, dairy, soda, candy, etc. are all vegetarian.

One would think that a vegetarian is highly focused on nutricion, but most that I know seem to be a bit portly.  My sister is a pescetarian and in superb shape, but she also is a kick ass hockey defensewoman.

I was unintentionally pescetarian for a long time. When I was losing lots of weight, I ate peanut butter tortillas for lunch and tuna for dinner every day for about six months.

Now Heath Bell has said that he hasn't heard from his agent about a deal. Perhaps JimBo was wrong?
