I'll play StarCraft with anyone, any time ;)

Dude, im all about starcraft. well I was a couple months ago, havent been on it in awhile. I suck so bad though, my problem is multitasking while fighting. If Im sending troops after one base, I can never go back and build/create things and thats what hurts me haha.

On xbox im Falcgun1337, thinking of changing my name to cmdterps44 or something nationals but I cant really decide.

I usually play MLB 2k9 mostly with some Left 4 Dead and COD... Ima play the hell outta madden though

For all you rpg addicts, resident evil 5 is very good. You can play it for a long time getting all the achievements. Plus its coop which is badass. I used to play starcraft religiously too, kind of lost touch though.

lol if RE5 is what people call an RPG these days, then that genre has been diluted past the point of having any real meaning.

it's far from a "full" online franchise, but it's a solid first effort.

Isn't pretty much every game these days a role playing game?  If I play Doom, I'm playing the role of the Marine.  If I play Halo I'm playing the role of Master Chief.

Something like Final Fantasy, is that not more of a turn based strategy game?

a good-natured  to that.  I haven't played any of the FF series since VI (known as III in the US).  I wasn't even referring to FF series anyway.  But to call something like RE an RPG just because it has achievements is a joke, even if the commonly accepted definition of "RPG" isn't accurate to the letter.

I grew up with "RPG" games that were actually a challenge.  Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy (the first one) and so on.  Sure a lot of that was just tedious difficulty (read: "grinding") but it was fun all the same, and you actually felt like you accomplished something.  Modern RPGs are a cakewalk by comparison.  Even FF6, which is one of my all-time favorite games, really wasn't that difficult to blow through, and that game is 15 years old.

cmd has gotten me hooked on Battlefield 1943 for Xbox360 ... good game.

Also the new maps for Call of Duty: World @ War are amazing.

I'm just curious as to what really makes an "RPG" an "RPG"?  That you can choose your actions?  Then is GTA an RPG?  This is something that I have just always wondered exactly how to determine which games are and which aren't.

Depends on the generation.  It's not a discussion I care to take on in-depth, but technically you are correct.  When I came up, RPG basically meant you killed mythical crap with swords and magic, got experience and gold which you used to make your characters stronger and buy more swords and magic.  Generally speaking.  The whole term "role playing game" is rather arbitrary but that seems to be generally the type of meaning it has taken on.  In the modern gaming scene, it seems anything with a deeper stat/character development system is considered to have elements of "role playing."

I always thought of RPG's as game like Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Knights of the Old Republic, and Fable. RE5 is more or less a shooter. Shooters are taking on alot of RPG elements though. Look at Mass Effect. I didn't care for that game much, but it really combined elements of the RPG and shooter genres. As far as GTA....I would say it is an RPG.

Modern day RPGs are a lot shorter and less sword and shield than they used to be. Even the new FFs that have come out are a lot more modern and a lot shorter than their predecessors. I remember spending 70+ hours on FF7 (the best FF IMO) and I don't know a lot of people who really wanna get into a game that much these days. I think RE5 is a modern day RPG. You still upgrade weapons, you still get money to buy new weapons by defeating enemies, and there's still a great story line which is key to any RPG.

No way... RE5 is either a 3rd person action/adventure game or a shooter. I see nothing that makes it a true RPG.

Recently we've seen great 'true' RPG's like Mass Effect and KOTOR (I and II)... not surprisingly, both are from Bioware.

For the first time since switching to next-gen, Madden is decent. I'm pretty impressed with how the new development team actually stepped their game up. It's actually playable this year.
