The article says the bats were introduced around 10 years ago which coincidentally is right around the time PED use exploded. I wonder if saying that the ball is hit harder by maple bats could've been used as a reason/cover for increased power.

Wow...  I never realized things like that had happened...  the article is spot on about the player's union though.  You can guarantee that if so many players "swear by" maple, they won't be satisfied until someone gets killed
