Amanda Comak reports that Maldonado is dealing with severe back pain and that Harper took reps tonight in case he has to fill in at catcher.

Wow.

I hope one day Bryce catches a big league game, even if it is just once. It's clear to me he loved being a catcher

Parrt of me thinks the injury is fake so they don't have to DFA him.

Interesting.

The team is about tapped out of AAA level (or higher) catchers considering Maldanado is on the DL.

"Updated: The Detroit Tigers outrighted catcher Omir Santos back to Triple-A Toledo on Friday after he cleared waivers. But Santos is not headed to Toledo. He has refused the assignment and is now a free agent. "

He's 31, played for the Mets in 2009 and is currently batting .310/.326/.722 BA/OBP/OPS at AAA Toledo, the best statistics of his career.

OMG. I hope he never catches a big league inning. The kid is the future of this franchise. Why would they want to risk that with some random foul ball going of his shoulder or something.

Interesting.  He's probably fed up with the Minors and is going to try to find a major league paycheck.

Huh? Since when does a random foul ball do anything other than a small bruise? Gimme a break. He's just as likely to hurt himself slamming in to the wall or diving for a ball in the outfield.

Since the foul tip hurt Flores shoulder and ended up with him having surgery and missing two years.

Definitely don't want Harper behind the plate for even a full-game, but I'll admit that if we had some emergency situation where Davey had painted himself into a corner with double-switches, I'd love to see him catch the 9th of a CG Stras win.  I know it's risky, but it would be three scoops of awesome with a side of awesome.

I think I remember reading that Solano was the number one choice when Ramos got hurt but he was on the DL and they brought Leon up instead.

This isn't an indictment  on Flores, but Solano should play Tuesday and Wednesday. Flores is looking really tired and beat up.

Solano goes 2-3 with a single and home run. First MLB home run.

I really hope  he gets to start tomorrow. He's in a nice groove and Flores could use an extended break

I would tend to agree, but I bet Davey clearly communicated to both catchers that it was a single game start.  Just guessing but he tends to not make sudden shifts in playing time based on a brief spurt of productivity.
