You're unloading sunshine past few days.

More proof that my friends in the LoD are the new middle ground as Sportsfan and his buddies have created a whole new clan of :hang: that freaks out when we only win 15 of 20 games.

15 of 20 isn't good enough when the Braves are winning every game.

The innings are not catching up with him... everything is just the same as it always is for Clippard (velocity wise, K's, BB's etc.). He'll be fine.

People just need to let the rough patch play itself out... and it will, soon enough.

He was top five among relievers in the entire MLB in innings pitched in both 2010 and 2011.  He's in the top 20 or so in 2012 so far.  It's entirely possible he's getting tired.

All that tinkering he does with his motion... and it's still relatively the same!

Burnett will likely be a free agent at the end of the year.  We'll have to give him multiple years to bring him back (usually not a good idea with relievers) or sign one of these guys -

Left-handed relievers
Jeremy Affeldt (34)
Sean Burnett (30) - $3.5MM mutual option with a $250K buyout
Tim Byrdak (39)
Randy Choate (37)
Pedro Feliciano (35) - $4.5MM club option
Brian Fuentes (37) - $6.5MM club option with a $500K buyout
Mike Gonzalez (35)
J.P. Howell (28)
Hong-Chih Kuo (31)
Will Ohman (35)
Darren Oliver (42) - $3MM club option with a $500K buyout
J.C. Romero (37)
Hisanori Takahashi (38)
Dontrelle Willis (31)

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/04/2013-mlb-free-agents.html

There are also these guys -

Closers
Jonathan Broxton (29)
Matt Capps (29) - $6MM club option with a $250K buyout
Francisco Cordero (38)
Kyle Farnsworth (37)
Brandon League (30)
Ryan Madson (32) - $11MM mutual option with a $2.5MM buyout
Juan Carlos Oviedo (29)
J.J. Putz (36) - $6.5MM club option with a $1.5MM buyout
Mariano Rivera (43)
Francisco Rodriguez (31)
Joakim Soria (29) - $8MM club option with a $750K buyout
Jose Valverde (35)

Hopefully we'll get lucky and Burnett will agree to the option.

Otherwise I wouldn't mind Gonzo as the LOOGY and finding a guy on the FA market to take Burnett's spot... Doesn't even have to be a lefty, though that would be nice.

From Ladsdon today:

Quote
Garcia to be called up soon

NEW YORK — The Nationals are expected to call up reliever Christian Garcia to the big leagues during September call ups, according to a baseball source.

Garcia, a former Yankees prospect, is a combined 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA and 16 saves in 38 games for Double A Harrisburg and Triple A Syracuse.

“He deserves to be the big leagues,” the source said. “He would be a big help to the bullpen.”

Nats have 10 players on their 40 man roster in the minors (Maya, Perry, Lannan, Purke, Leon, Marrero, Rendon, Rivero, Brown, and Perez) and 5 players (DeRosa, Desmond, Solano, HRod, and Wang :spaz: ) on the 15 day DL.  One would have to be removed to make room for Garcia.  I suppose Wang might be put on the 60 day DL if they decide he's done.  Otherwise, perhaps Maya gets removed from the 40 man roster.  DeRosa will be kept for depth, I think, but with Lannan and Perry and even Gorzelanny, there's little need for a 4th spot starter.

Maya has value, Wang does not. Not major league value but Maya's contract has to be viewed as sunk cost and he does provide Syracuse with a reliable starter. He may be a thrown in on a deal with a team that's going the lose to win later route.

What about Jeremy Affeldt?

I think he'll be pretty expensive.

He's making 5 million this year... I'm sure he'll want even more next year.

Pay dat man heez moneee.

I'm totally ok with going like 2yr/$7m for Burnett.  There's always risk with relievers, but he's more than a LOOGY - he's been pretty consistently good for most of last year and this year.

I like Gonzo back as the true LOOGY.

Nationals thinking about bringing up Christian Garcia (0.79 ERA, 61 Ks in 45 1/3 IP) before Sept. 1. Could impact down stretch/playoffs

The guy has never been able to stay healthy but we only need him for a few months. Could offer a nice jolt of life into our bullpen. By all reports he has always had great stuff so he could be a big addition even if he doesn't stay healthy beyond this season.
