Desi can't bat 8th. It would be an automatic out. Because the opposing pitcher would simply throw everything in the dirt, knowing that it would take an act of god for Desmond to get a walk. And even if he does,  big deal, the pitcher is up next.

Time to take a page from the Riggs playbook.

Bat Desmond 9th.

I mean hell, our pitchers are making better contact than three of our guys.

Better an automatic out at 8 than leadoff.

Remember that time earlier in the season FP said the offense was fixed... and how we weren't hearing any complains about Eckstein?

What now?

I am convinced FP constantly references his playing time so that the gumdrop faires don't realize they swapped his brain with a PR flack.

I liked what FP yesterday about how he's getting tired of having to tip the cap to the opposing pitcher every single game.

yeah, no bryce at 4.

I'd go with:
Lombo - 5
Desmond - 6
Werth - 9
LaRoche - 3
Harper - 7
Ankiel - 8
Espinosa - 4
Ramos/Flores - 2

I think with only LaRoche as an effective LHB now and Harper the most threatening LHB, they probably are best off keeping those two 3 batters apart rather than back-to-back so they avoid allowing a team to bring in a LOOGY to face both of them.

I place a high value on a #2 hitter, so I might be inclined to try LaRoche - RZ - Werth - Harper - Ramos ##2 - 6 when RZ is healthy.  If Lombo is hot at that time and DE cold, I might be tempted to send Espinosa down when RZ is back and let Lombo play 2d.  I'd lead off Lombo in that case.

How about ordering hitters to be more selective and if they don't----bench them.  Simple. There's a kid named Josh Johnson at AAA who would love a chance. Same for Kobernus.

Okay, I'm getting sick of ranting about how bad our offense is.  The fact is our offense has been sub-par at best during Eckstein's tenure here.  It's time for Rizzo or whoever to tell Rick that it's time to try something new and part ways. Maybe the change will produce positive results, maybe not, and probably nothing overnight, but at this point, you have to do it.  This club is struggling mightily at the plate right now.  Everyone on our roster is a major league hitter, and many have better career numbers than what they're showing.  We're getting dominated by good pitchers and mediocre pitchers almost every night.  What's the point of having the best rotation in the game if you can't score runs to support them?

It's all part of the Lerner's scheme to make guys like Strasburg and Zimmermann become fed up and not resign here in order to save money.

This team reminds me of the old adage about cars:

cheap, fast, reliable

Can't the Dept of Defense just offer him a job as a post-modern soldier by giving him a large club and telling him to swing at all enemies?

Seriously, I can't take this freaking bullcrap any more.

I'm not all about blaming or crediting Eckstein for everything - I just can't take too much more of this first pitch hacking.  It's reminiscent of Lenny Harris.

Eckstein speaks again!  From Zuckerman:

Quote
Eckstein had plenty to say postgame. Nutshell: Guys need to swing at pitches in their specific hitting zone, not chase stuff elsewhere.

Quote
Eckstein and Davey also both noted importance of shortening up swing with 2 strikes and with guys in scoring position.
