Corey Patterson batted lead-off and played CF for the Brewers today.

Went 0/4 with a K and DP.

Daniel Cabrera made his first outing with the D'Backs today in relief:

-Walk
-Walk
-Double
-Single
-Hit by Pitch

0 IP 2 H 5 ER 2 BB 0 K

How could someone put him on their team?  And in a game???

...someone other than the Nationals, of course.   :|

This is what scares me death about looking for pitching this offseason.  NOBOBY should come within 100 miles of Daniel Cabrera.  Pitchers can't possibly be this scarce!

Scherzer took offense to the :pimp: staring down his HR and then plunked Russel Martin.

Ronnie Belliard with the go-ahead infield RBI Single in the top of the 8th to give the Dodgers a 5-4 lead over Arizona.

Joel Hanrahan just threw two scoreless innings against the Dodgers in extras.  And, shockingly, his ERA is under 5 (4.94)!

Anyone notice that Jon Rauch is 3-1 with 3.38 ERA for the Twins?  Overall numbers this year with AZ and MN are 4.04 ERA, 2-4 record, in 62+ IP.  Reports of the Wookie's demise were greatly exagerrated.

He's been really solid for them - it was a fair trade.

Ronnie was only a triple short of the cycle today.

By Ken Gurnick / MLB.com

LOS ANGELES -- With a 3-1 win on Wednesday, the Dodgers swept their practice series with the Pirates and resume the pennant race on Friday night against the Giants.

OK, it wasn't a practice series, but it had that look with the lineup Joe Torre fielded for a noon game that included only two starters from Tuesday night's walk-off win in 13 innings. When you think about it, the Dodgers deserve some credit for being in first place for five months without getting to play the Pirates until this week.

Matt Kemp, taking turns with Andre Ethier as hero du jour, slugged a two-run homer on an 0-2 pitch from Kevin Hart in the sixth inning. Ronnie Belliard, who doubled and scored ahead of Kemp, homered two innings later. Belliard is hitting .319 with three homers in 13 games since being acquired Aug. 30.

Hiroki Kuroda earned his second win since returning from a line drive off his head and the bullpen was again untouchable, as Hong-Chih Kuo, George Sherrill and Jonathan Broxton (save No. 35) retired all nine batters they faced, as they did Monday night. Since Aug. 15, Broxton is 10-for-10 in saves without allowing an earned run.

Must be night and day playing on a team with a bullpen like that.

Every game Belliard starts at second costs Orlando Hudson $40K. I can't see him wanting to resign with the Dodgers.

A review from the "WE'VE GOT HEART" WEBSITE.

Also a moment of silence for all of the good Nats that have left us over the years. The recent trade deadline has led me to remember past Nats, and after seeing the sea of McLouth, Sanchez, and Wilson jerseys and t-shirts in Pittsburgh I really do feel for Pirates fans. Not all of the former Nats were perfect, or even good, but I can find something good to say about all of them and I truly do miss them. Some have moved on to bigger and better things and some never made it, but baseball is a business and stuff happens. I have tried to update what they are doing for you all. This list is not complete but they are the guys that I miss the most.

Robert Fick- now kicking independent league butt for the Orange County Flyers.

Tim Redding- Not doing too hot for the New York Mets

Joel Hanrahan- the veteran on the Pirates

Brian Schneider- NYM catcher

Ryan Church- A member of the Braves

Jonathan Albaladejo- not doing great for the Yankees, but has the most big league IP of his career

Ray King- as far as i know, out of baseball

Jon Rauch- we will see the big man in a few days on the D-backs

Chris Snelling- After leaving the Nats on May 2nd, 2007 he had major league moments on the A’s, Devil Rays, Phillies and minor league moments with the Padres and Pirates and is now a free agent, he did do well in the WBC for Australia.

Bill Bray- out for the season with a tear in left elbow, on the Reds

Brad Wilkerson- retired after getting minor league deal with the Red Sox this year

Brendan Harris- fair enough for the twins

Rick Short- as far as i know, after 2 seasons with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, he is out of baseball

Vinny Castilla- coached for Mexico in WBC

Luis Ayala- doing the same thing for the Marlins

Johnny Estrada- not in baseball

Josh Wilson- spent time in Arizona and Seattle’s AAA this year along with big league action with the Dbacks, padres, and Mariners

Felipe Lopez- traded to the brewers, we saw him a little while ago

Charlie Manning- not really that great in St. Louis AAA

Ryan Wagner- retired because of injury

Jesus Colome- signed a minor league deal with Brewers

And a few coaches…

Manny Acta- in FLA, with the family

Tim Tolman- signed as an instructor with the Mariners in Jan 2009

Actually, Rauch is now with the Twins and a pretty big cog in their typical September run at the playoffs.  3-1, 2.70 ERA in 10 IP.

Luis Ayala is no longer a Marlin - released after another dismal (did he have any other kind?) performance on August 29.

Thank G*d.

He couldn't understand why the Marlins released him after putting up a 2.35 WHIP, .364 BAA, and 11.74 ERA.  He said the FO doesn't know what it is doing.  He's right.  If the FO knew what it was doing, at its worst or he would have been released long ago, and if remotely competent, would have never been Beinfest's mid-season "upgrade" to the pen.

By all accounts, Ayala is a World Class Flaming A**hole.

I don't disagree with your sentiment, but Ayala was in the minors before being called up, and then almost immediately released, without even taking the mound again.  What up with that?  Why would they do that to any player?

I think Ayala was on a rehab assignment.
