Man the Mets are desperate.

Looks like he still Ks at a ridiculous rate, but in the past year a half he's doubled his BB%.  Maybe he just likes playing in Iowa.  His average looks lucky.

Not sure if anyone put this already, but Aaron Boone is playing ball in the minors after his open heart surgery

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP)—Aaron Boone(notes) is back playing baseball, appearing in a minor league game in Texas less than five months after open-heart surgery.

Boone batted second Monday night for the Corpus Christi Hooks, a Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. He swung at the first pitch and popped up to the first baseman in foul territory. Boone played third base against Midland and was hitless in two at-bats before leaving the game.

“It felt good to get out there and play in a real game,” Boone told The Associated Press in a phone interview. “I felt good physically. I always have nerves whether it’s a spring training game or my first game in Corpus.

“I was excited tonight. I think it went really well. I had a couple of balls come my way and got to face pitching for the first time in a long, long time. A little overwhelming, but a necessary step on the way back.”

The 36-year-old Boone had an operation in late March because of a congenital defect in his aortic valve.

“My first concern was getting it done,” he said. “Then once it did go well I knew the timeline. I thought I had a chance to be in this position.”

Boone will be off Tuesday and then play five innings again on Wednesday. He hopes to get back into the majors by the end of the season.

Great news for him. Hopefully he gets back to the majors this season.

wow great news for Aaron Boone.

I hopes he takes it a little easier though, just as a precaution. No need to go full-burn and risk messing himself up further. Maybe he sees some time in the Majors for Houston as a Pinch-Hitter, occasional fielder. kinda like Rocco Baldelli.

Five months does seem kind of fast, doesn't it? That would be a great role for him. Occasional pinch hitter, but just getting to be in a major league uniform after what he went through.

But no matter what happens, glad he's healthy and doing well :)

Sportscenter just showed a clip of Anderson 360 trying to turn a double play. No one was anywhere near first base to catch his throw.

Watching the Pirates and Cubs game, 11-0 in the bottom of the second with two on and no one out for the Cubs. Milledge has looked completely awful in left. He's poorly judged three balls in the bottom of the second, one of which led to a triple.

This is worse than the Nationals at their worst!

What the hell was he doing over there in left-center? With a right handed hitting Lee at the plate? Either Milledge was out to lunch or that was Russell's brilliant move.

The 2nd inning mercifully (for the Pirates) ends.

This is the PERFECT game to use Joel Hanrahan!

Remember, Milledge doesn't like defensive positioning from the bench. He plays the game his way.

17-2, bottom of the 4th.  Lee hits where Milledge should have been again and drives in 3.

MIAMI -- Marlins first baseman Nick Johnson left Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader after the first inning with a right hamstring strain with the score knotted at 1.

Ross Gload, who was starting in right field, moved to first base and Jeremy Hermida was inserted to play right field -- taking Johnson's No. 2 spot in the lineup.

Johnson, who came in batting .297 with seven home runs and 50 RBIs, flew out to left field in his first at-bat on a 1-1 fastball. He also got a putout on an inning-ending double play in the top half of the inning.

He is currently listed as day-to-day.

It sounds like NJ will be in the lineup tomorrow in Houston, though he's 0-3 with 2 K versus Norris.

I don't think people had that much of a problem with that trade. It was the trade that netted us a garbage 23 year old reliever getting pounded in the Sally league and a 25 year old who is recovering from TJ.
