The only thing I have in common with whitey is that we both get paid like crooks.  Otherwise, I might have the complexion for protection, but I'm no whitey.

we'll know that the Nats park area has gone to hell the minute a frozen yogurt place opens up within walking distance.

Yes. No beverages except water, and that has to be in (suposedly) sealed containers. "Personal" amounts of food are okay. Read that as any snacks and one meal per person. We usually buy "meal" food there, but bring our own peanuts, etc.

best approach is to just sit in diamond club seats, then you get food/drink with your ticket.

Columbia Heights probably has more granite countertops and Viking stoves per acre right now than anywhere else in the DC area, but 10 years ago was a whole different story (never mind 20-25 years ago, when the cops wouldn't go to 14th & Irving without serious backup).

I think you mean Congress Heights.  Columbia Whites is where all of my yuppie scum friends live.  Personally, I'm trying to talk my dad into parting with some of his shekels to buy up a block in Congress Heights.  Slum-lords-r-us.

More detail about the new brewpub opening at the Boilermaker shops.

"....the new establishment will contain a full-scale production brewery, a brewpublike tasting room (with a single long table and 20 or so barrels for aging sour beers) and a 200-plus-seat restaurant overseen by Birch & Barley/ChurchKey executive chef Kyle Bailey. Maybe more important, however, is the fact that NRG has hired a head brewer: Megan Parisi, former lead brewer at Cambridge Brewing Co. in Massachusetts.

And from jdland.com

* The operation will "open in about a year."
The brewery's neighbors in the building at 4th and Tingey SE, as announced so far, will be an Austin Grill Express, brb ("Be Right Burger"), Buzz Bakery, Huey's 24-7 Diner, and Willie's Brue and 'Que sportsbar, which will be another option for drowning any Prince Fielder-related sorrows, though by the time these places open the Nats will have had a fabulous 2012 season and no one will remember any of the recent drama. Right? Right?

Quote from: JDLand
In case you guys haven't been keeping up, here's the latest on the coming food options (yes, there finally are some):

* In March-April-ish, Potbelly Sandwich Works and Kruba Thai and Sushi should open in the ground floor of the all-but-completed Foundry Lofts building at 3rd and Tingey:
http://www.jdland.com/dc/yards-foundrylofts.cfm

* In summer, as part of the new Canal Park at 2nd Street between I and M, the Canal Park Tavern should open in the pavilion space at M Street:
http://www.jdland.com/dc/index.cfm/3580/...-Restaurant-Sp/

* Starting in late fall, the Boilermaker Shops at 4th and Tingey should begin opening. Not all establishments will open at once, but leases are signed with Willie's Brew and Que (a sportsbar), an unnamed brewery from the Churchkey/Birch and Barley team, Austin Grill Express, Huey's 24-7 Diner, brb ("be right burger"), and Buzz Bakery.

http://www.jdland.com/dc/index.cfm/3530/Willies-Brew-and-Que-Coming-to-Boilermaker-Shops-Pizza-and/

And, in late 2013 or early 2014, a Harris Teeter across 4th from the Boilermaker Shops will open, as part of a new apartment building:
http://www.jdland.com/dc/sfc.cfm?tab=no2&filter=parceld

There were rumors a few months ago that Gordon Biersch was about to sign a lease for the space at 100 M, but nothing's been announced.

http://www.jdland.com/dc/index.cfm/3560/Gordon-Biersch-to-100-M-and-BID-Surveys/Planting-Day/

As for Florida Rock, the developers found financial backing and are looking to start their first building, a residential one across from the ballpark's staircase, in spring 2013.

No movement yet on the blocks directly north of the ballpark, but I wouldn't be surprised to see at least Akridge make some sort of announcement this year (west side of the street).

(And the residential building directly across South Capitol from the ballpark is coming out of the ground, but since that's in Southwest I am ignoring it. )

There's also a new Espresso/light sandwiches place at 2nd and L, on the block north of Five Guys.

My Mom and Dad have one named Sadie. She's a sweet heart but what a prissy dog.

If you follow the link to the article, click on the writer's name and send him a comment and let him know that there's no need to take a cheap show at the Nats. The Nats were 44-36 at home last season.

...delightful, another place for lobbyists and other politisheep to hang out before and after matches, in their business suits and Red Sox caps...I think I'll just stick with what's on offer inside the park, thank you (haven't seen anything yet among the new openings that's even remotely attractive).

Oh c'mon Chelsea - you're so cynical !

This sounds like a great place for anyone in the DC area to visit, regardless of whether it's baseball season or not.  But of course, it will probably be packed during the spring & summer.
