Vintage autographed baseball
« Topic Start: December 08, 2012, 03:59:39 PM »
I have had a ball, that remains in as-new condition, for 40-ish years.  It bears only the signatures of Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams and Nellie Fox.

A family friend and White Sox player and coach, Tony Cuccinello, obtained these for me when I was a teenager.

I have another ball that Maris and Mantle signed for for me, and regret that it is not anywhere near as pristine as this one.

Been thinking of who if any past/present living major leaguer would compliment these signatures.  The only lock that I have come up with is Derek Jeter.  Perhaps Sandy Koufax or Bob Gibson?

Any other thoughts...not like it would be a given that I could or would add to these 3.

TIA

Mays or Frank Robinson among the living.  As for recent years, Maddux among the clean.  As for a current player, I like Mo more than Jeter.  To me, Mo is the best ever at his position.  I'm not sure Jeter was the best of his era.  Ozzie would be.

Thanks...all good suggestions...

I forgot all about Mays...not sure how anyone could do that...

I agree with JCA: Mays. Robinson. Koufax. Mariano Rivera. Cal Ripken. Yogi Berra's still alive.

Consider how highly you esteem Frank Thomas, Greg Maddux, Pedro Martinez, Nolan Ryan.

Hopefully one day Bryce Harper and Mike Trout.

Harper/Trout and Harper/Strasburg would be great.

Complement? As in have that player sign the ball? I wouldn't touch that ball.

Agreed.  Imagine slandering such a ball with something like a Cal Ripken autograph.  Awful to even think about.

Thanks for this...it really is the right answer, even more so with it having been a gift...

That's because Cal is in a class by him self and deserves his own ball!  :)

Actually a 'theme' ball would be ok.  Ie. 500 HR club.  3000 hit club.

For Tom Terp:  Players who have played in 2632 consecutive games club!  ;)

Same. Get another ball to fill in with those signatures, but that one is damn near priceless.
