Strava (http://www.strava.com/) is similar to MapMyRide, I just happen to be a major fanboi of it.  The King of the Mountain achievements are really cool to me.  I might have to do a ride down the Mt Vernon down to your hood this weekend and check it out.

Does Strava have an AQndroid App? I like that the MapMyRide website has the Apps and connects to your phone's GPS. Gives you the time, distance, elevation, etc.

Strava should have an Android App but one problem I have with it is that if you don't link it with a Garmin or movement monitoring tool it doesn't do a great job at removing "dead time" (i.e. standing still at a stoplight).  I usually compare what Strava gives me for my overall ride to what my bike computer has and it's usually off by around 1/2 mph overall and has an addition 5-10 minutes depending on how long of a ride I take.

Mount Vernon is a great weekend ride, though the trail is heavily used.  Very scenic once you get past Belle Haven.

AVOID AVOID AVOID on weekends.  Midday during the week is great, though.  The boardwalk through the reed marsh is bursting with bird life.  the path gets pretty twisty towards the end at Mt Vernon but the hills are small (though steep in a couple of spots for a short distance), so take it easy if it is wet.

They wussed out those hills at the end.  Too many crashes.

I've seen it before - if you notice in the description he actually mentions the manufacturer that made the frame for specialized. That's a really odd thing to mention.

What about this one?

That's a sweet bike. You don't weight over 200lbs, right?  The only reason I'm asking is the wheels that he upgraded to are for riders <200lbs. Otherwise, that's a really fast bike that you should be able to get at a sweet price.

During the winter I was maintaining 205-210.  Now during the summer while I'm more active (and generally eating better) I've dropped to just under 200.  Been maintaining about 195-7 for a couple of weeks now.  Would like to go 10-15 more by the fall if I can.

You should be fine in that case.  You'd definitely want to get it tuned up and the spokes tightened (total of ~$100) if you do buy this bike.   It's a really sweet bike, a little TLC and a moderate tuneup and it'll be ready to rock dude.

alright, I'll see if I can't swoop in on it.  I'm guessing this goes crazy right at the end of the auction and ends up way out of my budget, but I'll give it a shot.

Riding to work today. Should be a good 15 mile round tripper.

Riding home from work today - looking forward to it. Drove in with the bike in the pickup. Riding the bike home ~16-17 miles. Then, I'll ride it back here tomorrow and then take the pickup home with the bike tomorrow.

I'm thinking that I can do this easily Mon-Tues and Weds-Thurs. Bringing in enough clothes for the next day each time.

Tonight's ride home (25 miles) will be the first in <100 degree temps in about 2 weeks.  But I'll take 100 degrees any day over 20 degrees, dark, and icy.

Fifteen miles today round trip without a single non-red light stop. Hard to believe three years ago today I was still in a coma, strapped to a hospital bed, 500lbs of pure misery.  Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

Your thoughts? A co-worker and relative is selling this bike. What would one expect to pay for it and could it hold up to a big, but getting smaller guy?

That looks like a pretty small framed mountain bike (~19"), might be a bit too small for you.  As far as it holding up - you'd need to replace at least the rear wheel (anywhere from $200+) but other wise it should hold up.

You'd probably be better served buying an '80s steel road bike and having a solid rear wheel built for that amount.

Agreed. Fancy frames/materials don't contribute near as much to riding enjoyment as good wheels and tires, and a reliable drivetrain.

The two things that a heavy ride (i.e. 250+lbs) can't go cheap on are wheels and a saddle.  A good saddle makes a TON of difference.
