Why is Suzuki just getting the nod at catcher in all these mock lineups I'm seeing? If Ramos is healthy, he should be our guy behind the plate.

They plan to phase Ramos back in slowly, backup catcher for April-May and fulltime catcher when he's proven he's fully ready.

Not really.

Yea really. Even if you take his Washington numbers, he OPS'd .725. Which would be good for about 15th place (out of 18 catchers with a minimum of 400 ABs. Offensively, he's nothing special. Defensively, according to the metrics, he's in the middle. He's hardly "a stud"

Anybody who can do this is a stud.

So can he, but I bet he'd still be an average catcher

Bet he wouldn't even be an average catcher

Stud is a term you use when describing Strasburg, Harper, Zimmerman, Gio, JZimm and maybe Desmond. Not Kurt Suzuki. I'm by no means saying he is a bad player but he's not a stud. And I believe Ramos is the better player.

So for catchers, Molina, Posey, and Mauer. Maybe Montero

Blah blah blah, Suzuki was huge for us last year after coming over from Oakland. Mr. Clutch. He's also very good behind the plate and seems to have great chemistry with the pitching staff.

It's a perfect situation for our team while Ramos recovers.

That's all well and good Kev, but I would trade Rendon and Suzuki in a heartbeat for any of the guys I mentioned

Kurt Suzuki had a higher OPS (with us) than Montero last season, but sure, bro.

I didn't even see your reply, I thought it was mad.

Your trades aren't happening, I don't see the point in going down this road. Suzuki was huge for us and I am glad he'll be the starter on opening day. He deserves it.

Not to back Slate, but there is another catcher with the last name Montero who had a much better year than Suzuki with the bat.

Miguel Montero: .286/.391/.438/.829
Kurt Suzuki: .267/.321/.404/.725

Never said they would. Wasn't seriously considering them. I just reject the notion of calling Suzuki a "stud"

He's a good back up. He's  a serviceable starter.
