Stephen Strasburg and Robert Griffin III: The inevitable and cloying comparison

Shanahan will probably be buried in some corners for playing Griffin, just as Rizzo was blasted for sitting Strasburg. There are, again, enough differences that you could do both without being a hypocrite. Maybe Rizzo will gain some sympathy. Maybe not. It’s all noise for now, and until the next time horsehide hisses in Viera or toe meets leather in Ashburn, it will all just feel so damn sad.

After seeing that in person, I'm glad we didn't risk Strasburg. I've never heard a stadium more silent besides Game 5...

It honestly felt a lot like game 5 to me. Horrible feeling.

I've had the misfortune of being at both games. This wasn't as bad as Game 5 though in my opinion because not many expected us to win.

And Vazquez's manager, former major leaguer Alex Cora, just tweeted in Spanish that Vazquez threw 95 mph on his 83rd pitch.

No way he's throwing 95. Still, he'd probably be a good depth pickup if he's willing to pitch in AAA.

Hopefully we don't get Yunesky'd and Vasquez still has something left in the tank if we sign him.

I wonder if he'd be hitting 95mph regularly if he was pitching in the 7th inning.

Too bad he wants to start... that keeps him in AAA.

He has said he would only come back to play for a contender.  It would be worth a shot.  Maybe a contract where he gets to opt out by a certain date if he's not on the big league roster.

Truth.  I could see him coming back to where his career started.  I honestly see him pitching at some point this year at the MLB level, and he provides the Nats one heck of a 6th starter.

Did anyone actually clock him over 85?

Hell did any of his pitches ever break the speed limit in a retirement community in Fort Meyers?

Nats should have given me those millions. I can be a righthanded no out guy.

I don't think they send him back to the pen now.  He won 12 games last year for the Nats and showed that he can pitch big games in the postseason.  He is a starter through and through.  Vazquez would be a step backwards but provides great depth at a position where the Nats are thin.  What other contenders are looking at using him in their rotations?  Angels?  Orioles?

Eh, if we had signed or traded for another pitcher in addition to Haren, I'd be down. Detwiler's performance is good as a number 5 but he could be replaced, if necessary.  Lohse might be expensive, but he would be fine as the number 5.

But I would rather trade Morse for a LOOGY and a prospect.

Detwiler > Lohse

I agree. However, Lohse as a number five and Detwiler as the LOOGY/7th inning guy > Detwiler as a number 5 and no LOOGY

Not to mention, when we have the inevitable injury to a rotation stater, Detwiler will be able to take over as a starter. Detwiler as a number5 > Detwiler as a 4 and Maya as a 5
