bernadina and desmond in the 1 and 2 holes would be disastrous. go espinosa and werth as 1 and 2 (either way), nix at 3, zim at 4, morse at 5, ramos at 6, desmond at 7, bernadina/ankiel 8.

Considering Espinosa has a .184/.250/.329 line leading off, I don't see how he's much of an improvement. Granted it's a small sample, but still. Zimmy would do better #3 but then again, maybe Morse would fit there and Zimmy bat 4th.

Hmmmm... Bernadina has a .305/.380/.516 when batting 6th.

I wouldn't read a whole lot into hitting stats at a particular place in the lineup.  Players generally hit about the same over a long period of time regardless of lineup position, adjusting for age etc.

Score some runs offense, dammit.  Don't go into a coma after scoring two!

I reckon... The stats are there, just looking at them.

Did you know: The year Rickey Henderson stole 130 bases he got caught 42 times? That's crazy...

With the way Marquis is pitching, this game should not still be in doubt...but it is.  :|

I don't mean to pick on you, but you could find a stat showing that Espinosa hits worse on Tuesday afternoons than on Thursday evenings. It's unlikely that batting first causes him to play that much worse, and as you said, it's much more likely that it's a sample size thing. But he could hit 2nd as well, Werth first.

I wonder what it would be like if our 1 and 2 hitters got on at a decent clip?

I actually feel relatively confident, oddly enough.

Are you wasting Werth's bat leading off though? It's all good, just trying to entertain myself :D

Leadoff spot's one of the most important in the lineup. In a lineup with different players, he'd be better in the middle of the lineup, but he's a better on base guy than Nix or Morse, and Zim is best off hitting 4th.

I think Carp hit the nail on the head.   It appears Ramos is being comfortable.   I kind of liked seeing the rookie put his arm around the shoulder of Marquis.

Great play by Espy.

Inexcusable pitch by Marquis with the pitcher on deck
