When the Nationals are involved in historical moments, left-hander John
Lannan knows when to rise to the occasion. On Aug. 6, 2007, Giants
outfielder Barry Bonds was a home run away from the being the career
home-run leader. But Lannan held Bonds hitless in three at-bats in San
Francisco. Tuesday was another historical night. Braves right-hander John
Smoltz, 40, became the 16th pitcher to reach career strikeout No. 3,000.
But the Nats won the game, 6-0, thanks to a superb performance by Lannan.
He tossed seven innings and giving up five hits.

Lilly finally picked up his first win of '08, in his last start against the Mets. The
lefty gave up one run on four hits, four walks and struck out four over six innings.
His velocity was better, he was able to mix in his breaking pitches, and he was
more aggressive. All good signs for Lilly, who won 15 games last season. He is 3-2
with a 2.06 ERA in six games against the Nationals in his career.

If Lannan pitches well this game, I'll feel pretty confident behind his abilities.

I'd say the offense should light Lilly up today, but they have trouble lighting a George Foreman grill.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

surprisingly it's business as usual in the lineup, usually sunday's are the the designated day for bench players to get starts.

lannan has been pitching out of his mind lately, i expect that to continue...this is def the most winnable game of the 3.

Believe it or not, Acta's job is not to field a lineup to satisfy your lust.

Knight and Holliday are discussing sportsfan's favorite catcher, Geovany Soto.

I wish we had Jose Flores and Geovany Soto as our catchers platoon. I'd got for that combination over almost any other.

Too bad for all of us (except maybe Chico). That could be a good thing. Maybe it will prevent him from being rushed before he's ready.

pitiful, ump. He calls the same pitch a strike once and a ball two other times.

If we got Soto from the Cubs. I'd like to see him and Flores platoon for the Nats.

Man they are really going to have to do something about those two lower sections in right...  the whole stadium is packed and yet those 2 sections are still completely empty.

Guzman chases ball 4 twice in a row.. unbelievable.  He has to be more willing to take the walk.

Zimmerman has completely changed his batting stance. He is still looking pathetic. He needs to sit down for a couple of days.

Zimmerman really has no business hitting third.  Lilly rolls into the game with an ERA around 8 and cuts through the Nats in the first with ease.

You can't make the people come out of the club. The idea of having the club seats positioned there was completely stupid. At Redskins games the club seats are always empty because those people prefer to stay inside at the bars and restaurants but at least those seats are in the middle level.

The first called strike was awful. That was ball 4. On the other hand, I hate it that batters in our lineup will not swing on 3-0 counts. That only allows pitchers back in the count. They usually watch strike one, foul off the next pitch and then the pitcher can do what he wants.

Our freaking left handed arms cannot throw strikes consistently.   :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Lebron James is a nag and gets treated like a nag by refs. However, the Bullets don't have the hustle or determination necessary to put teams away.
