Watching him now. The idiot is still wading out to the railing.
Not sure if anyone was watching weather channel around 7:30 - 7:45, but it might have been the funniest thing I've seen on TV in real time.  Cantore was down at battery park, and the tide was coming over the seawall.  He was talking to Norcross, their hurricane expert.  Cantore was saying if the tide came in much more than another couple of feet, he was going to need to pack up and leave. Norcross said something like the tide was going to add another foot, so cantore said, if it is only another foot, I can stay.  Then norcross says something like well, this is going to still be bigger than the alltime record set in 1821 for that spot.  At this point, Cantore is confused, so he asks how much more water is going to be here?  Norcross then starts talking about something else, and Cantore asks how much more water, am I going to need to get my crew out of here?  Norcross just keeps talking to Cantore, can you see the lights in Jersey City?  What direction is the wind?  When the wind shifts, it will pile up tide.  This goes on for 15 minutes. Norcross either isn't paying attention or does not otherwise get what Cantore is asking him.  Cantore says, well, I see the water in the past 10 minutes since we've been on has come up to the bottom of the park bench here, and that is how high water got with Irene, so do I need to get out of here with my crew?   I don't think Norcross ever figures out what he was asking, and finally Cantore just says, we're packing up.

7:45, FIOS gave out and came back.

I hope the wind doesn't blow away my dogs when I walk them later tonight.

Now Cantore is back out there!

Con Ed shut down power in lower part of Manhattan.

Official landfall was 5 miles south of Atlantic City.  I'll spare you the Bruce youtube, but another great song.

6:30 was my last walk. She was literally scared crapless. Hold off if you can.

They're pretty low to the ground, right?

I walked the dog about an hour a go and it was scary out there.

If PEPCO intentionally cut my power I'd be breathing fire. They are doing so to force people to evacuate.

They only weigh around 32 lbs each so I may take them out one at a time in case the wind blows away one of them then I'll have a backup dog at home. I'm going to have to take them out at some point. Thinking about waiting until the football game is over.

Nope.

Wind has picked up here. I can't see much, though. Pretty sure I heard a tree crack. Surprisingly loud.

Just because some trees fall doesn't mean it's OMG THIS STORM IS SO BAD.

I was out driving around an hour ago, people overreach to everything, they want excitement.  It's a cat 1 hurricane, lol.  FL gets a handful of these every year.

Overreacting to weather? You should see people around here when it snows.

All in your perspective, I guess. Florida does not have the tree cover we have here. I hate being without power for a week.

An asteroid fell on my house once a few thousand years ago. That sucked more than any storm.

I wouldn't do that, because I'd lose in such a contest. Storm measuring, I mean, not the other.

I live in Fairfax.  I was in FL for a 2 hurricanes though (bad vacation luck) and have immediate family that grew up in Pensacola. It's kind of like how we overreact and clean out home depots/grocery stores when 4 inches of snow is on the way.

wind/rain still coming ... sounds like the heavy winds will be here for another hour (not really going over 45 mph gusts) but staying steady ... then around 10 the winds will die down.  rain will pick up heavy a little after midnight.

right now still in the clear.  hope that stays the same.  i'm digging the laying in bed watching crappy horror movies.
