The bananas are beginning to really whip now, that's my own wind gauge. Rain is steady but not heavy yet. Not looking forward to tonight. I'll take Mom downstairs when it getds hairy as my backyard is filled with 90 ft. tulip poplars. Wind gusts are more sustained now. This is going to be a scary one. Hope all stay safe.

Chincoteague completely flooded per the CWG.  Water levels as high as 3 feet.

Good luck with Mom!

We are all going to sleep in the basement bedroom tonight. Should be fun/awful.

that's the smart move.  CMD/my folks are doing the same tonight.  My house doesn't have a lot of huge trees surrounding it, but I may end up on the couch in the center of the house rather than sleeping in my bed right next to the window lol.

A friend of ours lives a couple blocks away on the top floor of her building. She had a window blow out and the roof is leaking, granted, it's a pretty old not very well maintained building, but still.

The latest call I've heard was landfall around 5 - 6 PM, quite likely in Atlantic or Cape May counties in New Jersey.  Picked up speed and on a BNW direction.  While a bit before high tide in NY harbor, the wind should still pack up the water there, per Cantore on TWC.

I'm on the top (eighth) floor of a fiftysomething (but well maintained) building, and I've had concerns about something like that happening here too (the window, not the roof - we have a roof garden over my floor).

Some dickheads got blown over down on 15th Street and then had a newspaper stand hit them. I think they heard me laughing at them from the 16th floor.

I'm glad most of the leaves are down here in The Land of Sublime Living™, Gaithersburg MD. They would have made this so much worse.

Due to extreme weather conditions from Hurricane Sandy that are expected to impact the entire Metro service area through the overnight hours:
•Metrorail and Metrobus service will not resume service Tuesday morning.  An announcement on when service may be restored will be made after Metro is able to assess damage and weather conditions in the morning. Metro personnel will need to perform a comprehensive damage assessment, including inspections of track, bridges, aerial structures, stations and facilities. Metrorail service restoration is also contingent on adequate commercial power to support operations and repair of any storm-related damage. For Metrobus, service restoration will vary by route and depend on road conditions.
•MetroAccess service will remain suspended all day Tuesday.

Metro will restore service only when it is safe to do so.

Customers are encouraged to sign up for MetroAlerts for information regarding restoration of service as it is known. Information regarding Tuesday service is not expected before 6 p.m. Monday.

To check Metro service status by phone, call             (202) 637-7000       [TTY             202-638-3780      ].

All previously scheduled Public Hearings on Monday and Tuesday have been cancelled.
