The young pitchers are the only bright spot in this otherwise dismal season. I don't see how any of the position players can be guaranteed to have a job next season. That includes the All-Star "by default". He's just an average third baseman with an eratic arm.

The $10 Million Dollar man is doing his part too. 0/10 with 7 Ks over his last 3 games.

Exactly.  The managerial change took too long, none of them seem to believe they can be better anymore.
That is a very good point

Ray Knight looked like he wanted to kill Riggleman in the post game tonight.

I swear the poor guy is going to have a heart attack before the season is over.

Joseph Silverman / The Washington Times Willie Harris turned a double play in the eighth inning of the Nationals' loss to the Cubs on Friday night.

Quote
Subbing for the injured Alfonso Soriano in left, Hoffpauir made a diving catch in the stands in the third, going around a ball girl who was oblivious to the play, and reaching over some fans trying to make the catch.

"I went over the next inning and asked her, 'The next time, if you don't mind, take a look,'" Hoffpauir said. "She said, 'Look, I'm so sorry.' "

And what happened the next time a foul went down the line?

"She ran into the bleachers," he said with a laugh.

Must've been the way he's on his way to being horizontal and yet he still made the throw in time to nail the runner. Spectacular.

Terrible call on that play. Never tagged the runner with the ball.

Yup. I saw that from my vantage point at the game. I assumed the ump was letting have it for being in the neighborhood, or points for effort. It was probably also sympathy.

Dibble:  "this team is lifeless".

That was the term we used last night leaving the game. And the pinch hitting of Kearns to start an inning is like smothering the comatose patient with a pillow.

I agree with you on Stammen. He made mistakes, but he wasn't walking people. He stayed after the batters and pitched to the defense. He made a bad pitch to Zambrano. And when he did make his mistakes, you could tell he was pissed about it.

He's not great by any stretch, but that outing with its inconsistency is precisely the kind of outing you expect to see from a rookie pitcher who lacks experience. Young pitchers only learn by throwing strikes.

Kearns can go F himself. There is just no excuse for him to be this awful at the plate.

Why can't he hit his usual .260 with some homers?

Him and Belliard are stealing cash from the Lerners.

SSB, how bad is MacDougal? Good lord he freaking sucks

MacDougal needs to throw more strikes.  Why can't kids learn that.

I love his ability to hit 97-98 on the gun but he cannot control it.

Hilarious, the ball in his right hand, the glove 4 feet away and tagging the runner.

Right now, I'd have more faith in Bergmann than anyone else in the 'pen to close out the 9th, that is, if we get another close opportunity this season.

Other than the ballgirl wearing Nats gear you can't even tell that's a Nats home game.

Especially since it looks like a scene from Bruno.

The fat bald guy blew his one chance he'll have in his lifetime to help the home team.  Even our fans lack fire.

She does have some nice looking wheels.

I am shocked somewhat in the attendance so far. Here I told that guest poster from Pittsburgh that the Cubs games typically come close to selling out. I guess there's nothing typical about this year.

Other than Berkeley's Boricua avatar (where the heck did that one go?), this might be the best pic yet. Another good one was on BPG quite a bit, an Arab street protest scene that was doctored so that the peeps were wearing Mets swag.

My favorite pic of the BPG era was the one poster who always posted the Stan Kasten picture with Nats Park in the background while it was under construction. I think he posted that pic in every thread.
