Watched Anthony Bourdain's D.C. show tonight, he highlighted a place called "mini bar" on 8th street NW, it's a restaurant within a restaurant (Cafe Atlantico), 2 seatings per night, 6 seats, $120 price-fixed meal, roughly 27 courses of small plates as dictated by the chefs.  The reviews on Yelp say it's worth every penny, must try it some day!

This is a great recipe and easy to do.  I substitute chicken for turkey

Mediocre at best. I wouldn't bother.

Damn, I already ordered the Chicken Alfredo. Hopefully it's okay.

I find the Buitoni pasta in the dairy case to be superior to what you get from the chain restaurants.

Man, I love blue crab.  I just realized that I have NEVER had crabs and beer.  That means it has been over 5 years since I have had any!!!!

I'm thinking about buying a bushel and having a party this summer.  There's a place in my small town that apparently has some of the best you can get anywhere within like 100 miles.  My mouth is watering already, and my wallet is crying.  $170 a bushel.

By far the best half smokes in town are from the hot dog stand outside the RI Ave Home Depot.  $2.50 gets you all the chili, cheese, onions, and hot peppers you can handle on a zippy sausage in a fresh roll.

Twice here in the last week.  Who says southern Md has no culture?

Half smokes a bit pricey at $3.59, but oyster sammiches, crabcakes, and dixie style BBQ -vinegar based hot sauce and cole slaw ON the sandwich.

I'd lay odds those come from the Florida Market. I haven't tracked down the source but several of the places have half smokes that are just as good or better than that stand. Granted the stand itself has the best half smokes I have found in a cart or restaurant.

Granted Weenie Beenie & Ben's Chili Bowl has the history going for it but I don't like that style as much.

The cart on 9th and Penn. is worth a stop too.

stopped at the Italian Store today in Arlington, the kids said it was the best sandwich they've ever had.  I agree.

Definitely top five but I think there is better. Try Taylor Gourmet on H ST NE; easily the best Philadelphia style Italian in the city.

Also A. Litteri does an incredible chicken parm and can outclass the others if you mix and match it right. 9" hard roll rocks.

We had a 20 minute on Sunday at 3:30 PM for sandwiches, they said that was their "slow" time.

So I decided to try the South Beach Diet.  After week one, I'm about 13 pounds lighter   Mostly because of the hardest part of the diet for me - no beer since my birthday on the 20th.

Today, my South Beach phase 1 approved breakfast was some bell pepper and onions sauteed in some olive oil, to which I added 3 beaten eggs, a strip of chopped bacon (pre cooked) and some crumbles of feta cheese.  It was killer.  Cereal is not allowed.  Somehow, I feel like I'm eating better than I was when not on a diet.

You should go to a nutritionist. I know several people that had good weight lose results from the South Beach but my doctor says high protein diets aren't good for your overall health.

It's not really high protein.  So far I'm at about 28% of my calories from protein.  I think the RDA is something like 20% fat, 30% protein and 50% carbs.  It is low carb for the 2 week "Phase 1" when you're pretty much eating just lean meat and vegetables.  After that you add in more carbs, but they have to be high fiber like whole wheat bread instead of white and brown rice over white.

You also focus on "good" fats like from fish and olive oil and avoid "bad" fats like transfat and saturated fat.

Keep up the great work, you're off to a nice start.  Don't mind blue, he likes his carbs liquid.   :glug:
