What happens next week?  Marlins and whom?
Mets.

At home, we should be ok.

115 pitches for Billingsley. 7 straight innings without a hit for the Nats :lmao:

You know Big Mike Stanton is going to be putting on a lazer show Tuesday-Thursday.

It's time for me to check out on the Nationals this season.  The trial is over.  It's safe to make a ruling now.

This team is bad.  They're done with .500.  Won't see it again.  They'll be back in last place for the rest of the season after the Marlins series coming up.

They're not even the mythological good last place team.  They're a typical bad last place team.

Now we can wait to see what damage Rizzo does at the trade line and it will be damage.  Giving Mike Rizzo the responsibility of running a major league team is like giving a 5-year-old a book of matches.  The trade deadline stuff is the only thing left undecided.
Agreed on all fronts. All hope is lost for this team.

If it weren't for those first couple of hits this would be the day we were finally no hit.

Carpenter ...  in fact the whole broadcasting team repeats their lines every inning until they grind 'em into dirt  ....  pitch counts, how many retired, last time we got a hit, "How do you feel .... ?"

This team is boring on top of sucking offensively.

I actually spent money on the Extra Innings package when I could have looked in the newspaper's obituaries and received the same thrill attending the viewing of corpses.

Bye. We'd rather fans like you not come back.

But you will. When they're good, you'll come back raving about how you've been a fan from the get go.

Yeah because PC has only been around when the Nats have been winning pennants.  :lmao:

I normally don't respond to your doom-and-gloom posts, but this one struck me as particularly hilarious.  So if the Nats hadn't gotten any hits, they would have been no-hit?  Amazing!

I can't wait to see what Sportsnyan does when we finally are no hit.

I look forward to his analysis of Desmond's near-cycle after tonight's game.  "If it weren't for the fact that he didn't hit a single, double, triple or home run, tonight would have been the night Desmond hit for the cycle."

...and the second of those Mets matches (Saturday) features Jayson Werth bobbleheads to the first 15,000 in the house...I'm surprised the front office hasn't postponed or called off this promo.

Actually, Baseball Tonight and MLB Tonight WILL report it precisely like that, "other than the first inning, Billingsley threw a no-hitter"  or something similar.

I don't think so.  I've never heard them report any other pitcher's outing (particularly a seven inning one) as a "no-hitter except for x inning."  If he hadn't allowed any baserunners after the first they might have said something like "he was perfect outside of a sloppy first inning."

...Aaand he's coming back out for an eighth ,so you may be right.

Early in the first inning I would've bet the farm that Billingsley would not make it out of the 4th inning.

early in the first inning Billingsley most likely was wondering if he could get an out

Billingsley wants no part of Cora. Asked to be pulled.
