A great bedtime drink: The Sombrero.

Cup of your size choice
Fill half with Kahlua
Fill other half with milk
Place in freezer for 15 minutes

Remove and enjoy. freak cookies and milk.

Real men pass out with a tumbler of Scotch.

Never could get into Scotch. Tried several brands but I just don't like it.

IF you try Irish (and I highly recommend it) do Jamesons but get the 12 year old. Like liquid gold. Great stuff straight or on the rocks.

I'm the same way.  My friends think I'm nuts since scotch is closely related to whiskey but I just can't find a scotch that I like.  Can't explain it.

Who here has had real moonshine?

When I polish off this Lagavulin (tastes like a campfire), I'm gonna get me some Highland Park, it's supposed to be very peaty (cloudy)

So you're currently drinking something that tastes like smoke and next you're going to try something that tastes like moss?

I'll pass.

I have not had real moonshine-- yet. Part of my family lives in a small, backwoods area south of Charlottesville with some real rednecks and country folk. They have a few batches made up and know I'm looking for a jar or two.

Hopefully within the next few weeks.

I only had it once when I spent a summer in a fly-speck-on-the-map type town called Snow Camp, NC (about 25 miles from Chapel Hill).  One of the locals was a guy named "Creek Monster" who had a beat-up old truck.  The only thing of value on the truck was the hand-painted bug protector which read "Creek Monster" on it.  He was as red-necked as they come.

Anyway, Creek Monster had a still on his farm and he invited the entire cast and crew over to his place near the end of the summer and he busted out the 'shine.  It led to the worst Sunday morning of my life and I grew up going to the Catholic church.

I love rednecks. Such an interesting breed. They've evolved over the years. Their names have gone from Billy Bob to things like "Chewbacca" or your Creek Monster. Moonshine has also taken the backseat to other extracurricular activities, but it's interesting because they mix their shine with things like cherries, peaches, apples and even dandelions.

One time I saw a hand-painted, detailed black pick up truck with an imposing looking bulldog and the word "PYSCHO" emblazoned on the door. Yeah.

you know what is really freakin good?

Malibu Coconut Rum.

or any Coconut Rum for that matter, but specifically Malibu.

I just can't think of what would mix well with it, besides maybe Amaretto.

... before ya know it, you drank the whole 5th.    That stuff goes down tooooooo easy.

I drove by a redneck's place once that had a pile of firewood and a sign on top of it that read, "Fire wood for Sail."

Jack Daniels rules, by the way.

I've had it with cherries and mandarin oranges.  The cherry stuff was ridiculous, you could eat 3 of the cherries and already be buzzing pretty good.

That crap must be killer. Pineapple juice mixed with 180-proof grain alcohol fuel they used to give Navy torpedo motors pop.

Remember a few years back someone tried to market legal moonshine?  What a joke.  The only real appeal of corn liquor is the unregulated percentage of alcohol.

I had "palm toddy" in Africa, and I couldn't read my watch for like 3 days.

A friend of mine who is an evolutionary psychologist who spends half of his time doing fieldwork in eastern Ecuador reports that the Shuar people are very fond of fermented manioc, where the women sit around in a circle chewing manioc root and letting the enzymes in their saliva kick off the fermentation process before spitting it back up into a big wooden bowl for pooling and storage.  Mmmmm, good.

Human beings love to get their drink on.
