And for good reason - exercise bikes are the WORST piece of exercise equipment ever made.  I'm not talking about spin bikes or the Tour de France bikes (that thing is bad ass) I'm talking about your run of the mill exercise bike - STAY AWAY.  Better yet - BUY AN ACTUAL BIKE AND GET OUTSIDE AND ENJOY THE OUTDOORS.

And before anyone, other than folks with knee or hip replacements, says "I can't do it" - I'm doing 20-25 miles tonight after I hit the gym for 90 minutes of weight train and my current weight is 400lbs.

I'm doing about 15 miles a day 4 times per week - and I've had a quadruple bypass. So, get out there - but get your Doctor's permission first if you have medical issues...

Obviously you don't want to just jump into something your body can't handle but I think people get caught up on buying "gym equipment" that end up being junk receptacles.

I liked using my elliptical until the plaster ceiling downstairs started to sag.  It is now off limits.

There's one big hill on my commute to work that's stopping me from riding. It occurred to me the other day... get off and walk. Bikes are much faster than walking downhill, faster than walking on flat ground, but when you are old and out of shape, it's okay to declare momentary defeat and walk up hills. It won't even slow you down much.

If I can focus enough to actually get some work done, I'm going to do the CCT Bethesda fandango this afternoon.  Might need to drink Lake Michigan beforehand so as to not keel over.

I skipped riding to work today because of the heat and having to lug 20lbs of crape with me today.  I'm hoping I've got some gas left in the tank after I hit the weights for 90 minutes this afternoon, I'd love to do 20 miles today.

Just rode out the CCT to Ye Olde Bethesdy, and on the way back up Rock Creek came across two tiny spotted fawns right by the Calvert Bridge.  Pretty cool for smack bang in the middle of DC.

According to google maps, my drive to work is 1.0 mile and 5 minutes.  If I click on the "bike" directions, it's 6 minutes.  Too bad I'm fat, lazy, and poor.

Those are the worst kinds of miles - the car doesn't get to warm up all the way before you shut it off. Bike it, save your car.

You can bike to work without an MDS second mortgage special

For a 1 mile ride, you don't even really need a good bike.

Legitimate question. Where Nathan lives it may be a mile by interstate or some such crap. or bears or mega-piranha or god knows what the freak lives out there.

For a 1 mile ride, you don't even really need a good bike.

For a mile you don't even need a bike. When I take the metro to work it's a mile long walk from the metro to my office.  That's a quick 15 minute walk even if you have to stop to hike up your pants.

It's small roads and back roads.  But I wouldn't want to walk because it is wilderness-y (yeah we do have bears) plus I work at night.  Not too keen on walking through that area at midnight.  I highly doubt I'd ever come across a bear, but skunks are everywhere too

Just finished one hour and 40 minutes of saddle time. Managed to do a little over 21 miles before my ass finally gave out and cruised home riding on my right leg. Word to the wise - Brooks saddles are fabulous but hell on your ass (especially the area surrounding your sit bones) for the first 200 miles.  Great ride otherwise, even had some B Group guys giving me thumbs up for keeping up with them (~18mph) at Hains Point.

No reason not to believe you'd come across another bear. :D
