THIS DAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: On Monday 5th September 2005, the Nationals win their third straight with a 5-2 home win over the Marlins, with Livan carrying a clean sheet into the ninth...record now 72-66...http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250905120

Ths 84th win by this year's Nats pulls them even with the 1943 edition - here's where they stand, in terms of gross wins (I know it was a shorter season back then), with other winning Nats clubs:

99 - 1933 [pennant winner]
96 - 1925 [pennant winner]
94 - 1930
93 - 1932
92 - 1924 [World Series winner], 1931
91 - 1912
90 - 1913
87 - 1945
86 - 1969
85 - 1915, 1927
84 - 1943, 2012

Announced attendance was 21,244 but it looked a lot less than that - lot of STH probably staying home to watch Giants-Cowboys (we still have a way to go to really become a baseball town - King NFL shouldn't win out that easily amid some of the most exciting times our sports scene has had in many years). Season average is now 29,462, still 457/fixture over the 2008 Nats Park record but if we have too many more nights like Tuesday we may not break the record after all.
