Could be the most important homestand of the season, facing our two main NL East rivals...Mets are slumping a bit (lost four straight, seven of their last 10)...I'd really love a sweep of this series to build some distance between us and the Btaves.

I think the Braves series is the most important. They're only 2.5 games back and they are going to get stronger. Especially when they trade for Grienke

...or Dempster...disquieting thought either way.

I was referring to the entire Mets/Braves homestand (and I agree that the Braves series is the more important of the two on that homestand) - but this Mets series is a good opportunity to gain a bit of ground going into the Braves weekend.

---

Apropos of that, here's what's on tap elsewhere in the NL East tonight:

19.10 - Braves-Giants (Jurrjens vs Zito)
20.05 - Cubs-Marlins (Wood vs Sanchez)
22.10 - Dodgers-Phillies (Fife vs Halladay)

Bland Limestone offered to give Desmond a special therapeutic massage to help him play.

It really sucks that Ian isn't in the line-up.  Arguably he's been our MVP this year.

Great, so our roster of available bench players is only three deep tonight (Shark, DeRosa and AnKiel...ugh).  Better hope it doesn't go into extras and that no one gets hurt.

Yep. They know their pitcher can't hit so they'll take an automatic out.

Who cares? We're losing this series and then the Braves are going to obliterate us and we won't see first place again all season.

I'm glad Carpenter's in the lineup.

I was hoping we'd see a grand slam when Holliday was announcing so we could see how many runs he says it counts for. I would have bet 6.

Love Holliday, but having him do play-by-play might have been MASN's way of making Carpenter's detractors come around to him.

Wow, Espinosa has a gun. Good pitching by Detwiler.

Good swing on a really tough pitch inside.  He is starting to adjust.

Gotta see a replay, but that looked like a strike to me.
