Here in The Land of Sublime Living™, Gaithersburg, Maryland, I'll bet I'm without power for three days. The derecho took it our for six days. No power also means no water for me (we're on a well). Sigh.

Yes, I've prepped the genset for another week of third-world living.

In other words, if you live in DC, chill out.

We will probably lose power, but thats it. Unless you live on the coast or in the mountains, you'll be good.  I can tell you from years of experience that even up to 60-70 MPH is nothing, and we wouldn't even put up our shutters for that in FL.

GBurg, I also lost power for 6 days during the Derecho. I have a generator, though.

The flooding could cut me off completely for a couple days. Tom might have to come on a raft to save me.

latest Euro model shifts Sandy a bit east and puts it more on a trajectory toward New Jersey then Delmarva.  There will still be massive impacts from the storm in the entire mid-atlantic up to NY even with this shift (assuming it sticks).

Eh, if we lose power, I'm just taking everything over to my BiL's house. He's got a generator and a mostly empty fridge.

Be sure to stay positive about the Nats when you're over there. Didn't realize you guys were friends outside of WNFF.

I was joking around on facebook with my friends that are still active duty about this storm. Mostly saying things along the lines of "oh, it sucks to be on the base clean up detail after this." and what not. Most of them don't want it to hit to hard because they will be on the working parties. I said "Screw that, I hope this nag is BIBLICAL" to which one of them replied "Why would you want a fictional storm"

I laughed a little bit.

cope is by far and away the rookie poster of the year.  it's no contest.

Nah. cope is good, but LO is terrific too.  It'll be a battle.  Plus, let's not forget that we landed the White Whale!  I'd say cope retains his rookie eligibility because he did not start posting much before his September call up.

anybody know anything about sump pumps. like how to make sure mine works and how to turn it on. it is kind of buried in the basement floor, i hope it is one of those automatic turn on types. havent had to use it yet. hopefully it stays that way
