neither would Nieves.

get over yourself.
Nieves is far superior to Bard but it wouldn't bother me if the team found another back-up catcher in the offseason (not Schneider).

They owned the team during the '06 draft and offseason.  Don't get cute - your statement was incorrect.  I get your point, but it was still incorrect.

I think you and the LAC bunch need to realize that the Lerners, aside from obviously making some mistakes, have also been faced with a lot more than the average adversity faced by owners of a rebuilding team.  If they cheap out this offseason, I will be as pissed as anyone, but let's not jump to conclusions about their performance thus far.

i'm no trying to nibble.  i meant what i said and i later included w/ 07 being their first full year.

and adversity?  outside of the crappy TV deal and a crummy farm system what have they faced?

not saying spending money saves all, but it's a start.  they have spent some on the farm system (which i have applauded them for), but rarely anything on the major league product since taking over.  and it shows.  lol back-to-back 100 loss seasons with tons of work left to do to get better.

whatever that's enough lerner bashing for me tonight.  bull durham is on.  i think that team could beat the nats.

why? what's wrong with it?

Intelligent design is a sneaky way of repackaging creationism to try to trick school boards. I'm assuming this will get moved to uncensored.

very true, j-mad.  our pitching is the biggest concern.

flores hasn't stayed healthy in the last two years, that's why i hope the club really goes after an older catcher who has started games in recent years and has performed adequately rather than relying on two AAAA guys who are better served to play once every week and a half/two weeks.  part of the problem, again, is the fact flores can't stay healthy.

What older catcher worth a damn is going to come to a 50-games under .500 club with a "catcher of the future" already in place?

That's why we have Josh Bard.  We aren't going to get quality at that position unless we give up on Flores.

I'd just assume keep Nieves as the back-up because he is essentially the same as a guy like Jose Molina.

FA Catchers:
Brad Ausmus (41)
Paul Bako (38)
Rod Barajas (34)
Josh Bard (32)
Michael Barrett (33) - club option
Henry Blanco (38)
Ramon Castro (34)
Sal Fasano (38)
Toby Hall (34)
Ramon Hernandez (34) - $8.5MM club option with a $1MM buyout
Jason Kendall (36)
Jason LaRue (36)
Victor Martinez (31) - $7.7MM club option with a $250K buyout
Bengie Molina (35)
Jose Molina (35)
Miguel Olivo (31) - $3.25MM mutual option
Mike Redmond (39)
Ivan Rodriguez (38)
Brian Schneider (33)
Yorvit Torrealba (31) - $4MM mutual option with a $500K buyout
Javier Valentin (34)
Jason Varitek (38) - $5MM club/$3MM player option plus incentives
Vance Wilson (37)
Gregg Zaun (39) - $2MM club option with a $500K buyout

Why can't a shattered bat - just one time - impale Chase Utley?

I can't believe you like Bard. He is the worst defensive catcher in all of baseball.

He was great a few years ago.

If we're talking defense, I'd love to have Brad Ausmus.

As I sit here watching Cliff Lee mow down Nationals hitters, it reminds me of how much I'd love to punch Bartolo Colon in the balls.
