Maybe the Pirates would give us McCutchen and Hanrahan for Clippard and Morse   ;)

They'd need to sweeten the pot a bit. ;)

Shohei Otani is coming to the US. Should be free agent target number 1

I really want him but I bet he's going to the rangers.  They are one of the teams that have been reported to have interest in him and he would probably love the chance to pitch with yu.

This is probably an acceptable solution if they get a short term, good fielding and good hitting LF.  But there are so many good CF options out there this offseason so it would cost less to pick one of them up.

would it?  You're going to be giving significant money to your first baseman next year unless you let both LaRoche and Morse somehow and give the job to Moore.  I'm not convinced any of the CF options out there are better than Harper and Moore is at worst similar to what we got from Morse.  If it's a financial decision, that's the way to go.  Moore seems to be at the very least a good hitting LF and an adequate fielding LF.

No, it wouldn't. It's silly to think that.

Honestly, there isn't an outfielder that would replace Morse's bat (except, maybe, Melky). If Morse can stay healthy that is.

So - Rendon plus something for Justin Upton?

Kind of locks in the outfield for the next couple of years with Harper in CF.  Would probably need to keep LaRoche at 1B for his left handed bat.  Trade Morse for a prospect or reliever.  Would need a cheap 5th starter.

Chris Young was just traded for scraps.  Coco Crisp could probably be had for relatively little.  Pagan wouldn't cost too much.  I'm sure there are options out there.

I think, with this pitching staff, it makes sense to put a good fielding team behind them.

I'm just saying that I don't think those options are better than what we already have.

The ALR situation needs to get resolved quickly in the off season.  Sign him, or move on.  We can't sit around negotiating with Adam all off season because so many other things depend on how that plays out.

Yea, I seriously doubt they'll go for that. Justin Upton is still a premium talent in baseball, is only 25, and has a very reasonable contract through 2015. Even if he hits like last season, he's a wash with Morse.  Frankly, I think you move him out of that park and to a winning team, he ends up closer to his 2011 form.

Rizzo will probably be interested in upton too since he worked with the d-backs back when justin was drafted.

I don't think the Dbacks would be interested in any outfield prospects.  Maybe we could re-sign Brad Lidge and then trade him to them if they like former closers who are nearing the end of their careers.

Maybe Nate Karns and Rendon?  Maybe another middle infielder like Martinson or Walters?  I'd send them Lombo if they wanted him but his trade value is probably somewhat marginal.

Fair enough.  I think they are worse than Morse/Moore offensively but they would improve the outfield defense by leaps and bounds.  Both in left field and in centerfield.

Which would make me feel better about Upton's supposed attitude problems. Rizzo would know about this and knwo what's crap and what's legit.

What is the D-Backs deal? This will be what, the 4th time they've dangled him as trade bait? They are annoying.

I don't agree with you often, but hell yes trade for Upton.

I'd happily give up Rendon, Goodwin, Clippard and Lombo to get Justin Upton.  Play him in RF, Harper in CF and Werth in LF with Werth leading off.  Outfield would probably be the best in the NL, potentially in baseball.  Out of all of those guys, I'd be most upset to give up Lombo because he is a great utility guy to have off the bench.  Rendon and Goodwin would be a big blow, but I think Espinosa breaks out at 2nd next year so Rendon would still be looking for a position.

He's due 20 million. They'd have to eat a lot of that.
