The battle for first place in the NL East begins tonight at 7:05. The Braves are 3.5 games back and we play a four game series this weekend with a double header on Saturday. That double header will feature John Lannan. This is a huge series. Let's whoop em.

(note: I do not have my format)

Quite possibly the most important series of the season...but will they play it, tonight anyway? (Very little actual rainfall where I'm at, midway between the Capitol and Verizon Centre, but weather.com continues to stick by its predictions - currently 65-100% between normal game times - of rain/thundershowers.)

---

Also on tap in the NL East this evening:

19.05 - Phillies-Giants (Worley vs Lincecum)
19.05 - Pirates-Marlins (Correia vs Nolasco)
19.10 - Mets-Dodgers (Santana vs Harang)

Attendance will be interesting to watch in this series - the two non-rained-out fixtures of the Braves' earlier visit drew 41,042 (Saturday 2nd) and 38,046 (Sunday 3rd), our 7th and 10th best turn-outs of the season to date and our 1st and 5th best turn-outs ever at Nats Park for this opponent.

Fantastic. That'll teach me to look at forecasts before getting tickets.

It's looking like bad weather but with the DH tomorrow you know they will play this at all costs.

I'm sorry to those that hate it but I wouldn't mind late night baseball tonight. It's always a good feeling on Friday's and Saturday's when I'm at a bar at like 11-12 and I can watch the Nationals play.

Pretty safe bet - in addition, our remaining home series against the Braves is 20th/21st/22nd August (Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday) which would be difficult to shoe-horn a make-up match in; we have the 23rd open but the Braves don't (they open a series at San Francisco that day).

I wonder what our playoff odds (as shown on ESPN) will be with a sweep and if we get swept.  Probably 60% if we get swept to over 90% if we sweep.  So ya, this is a huge series, even if it's only July.  This is kinda fun=)!

Go Nats!  And go away rain!

If it goes really late Chipper might have to take out his teeth and call it a night before the game is over.

CWG is now "cautiously optimistic" about getting the game in:

Don't even start thinking about that thing that causes the 60% you mentioned. Snotlanta isn't allowed to bring  brooms into DC. :mg:
Huge series yep, and then we go to NY to play with those muts another big series, but not as huge. Still the more in-division games with w's the Better.

What about a double-double-header?  Two games on Saturday and two more on Sunday!  Has that ever been done?

How about a triple header?  First game at 10 with single admission.  You might need a hazmat suit to safely use the bathroom by the end of the second game, but that would be one hell of a baseball fix.
