Firebug.

Hmm, not sure why that would obscure the banner, but whatever.  I've considered just not having a banner, since everyone seems to hate it anyway.

I did it manually. It just takes up space, IMO.

I like a simple panorama of Nats Park, as Chief suggested originally.

Oh you're one of those.  I guess you probably have your personal info panel collapsed as well then, eh? ;)

I kid...  I'm normally one of those people too, but when I first put the forum together it looked so bland and generic without any kind of logo or banner up top.

I'd like to see a flash or shockwave banner based on whack-a-mole.

Dig if you will a picture. A panorama of nationals park. In the spring various players pop up in the stadium. If they made the roster they are unscathed, if they fall to injury or don't make the roster they get whack-a-mole'd. As the season progresses, our N.L. East rivals photos pop up and are inevitability whack-a-mole'd while all Nats are safe. All the while "Nuts About The Nats" endlessly recycles in the background, while browser exploits attempt to ensure no one can mute our team's fantastic theme song.  In future releases of the flash or shockwave application, players will try to run through the posts and over the posting buttons to avoid being whack-a-mole'd.

"Nuts about the Nats" should play even if you turn off & unplug your computer.

I'm sure we could come up with 100 bucks between all of us for that. how many regular posters do we have here now?

That's not really the point...  the point is that vBulletin doesn't really do anything that SMF doesn't or can't for free.  Especially with SMF 2.0 coming sometime this year.  It's more a question of personal taste and man-hours.  Also artistic/coding skill.  My web coding skills are fairly basic, and my taste in design...  well, it's mostly irrelevant.  I'd be happy to take the new theme shown below and add some red and curly W's like I did with this one.  Anything more drastic than that and you're going to have as many opinions as you have people on this board.  I agree with the rest of you that the current banner looks dated now, but I didn't really like any of the ones proposed last time enough to use them.  Maybe it sounds uppity, but I think I have the right to make that decision.

Here are some shots of what SMF 2.0 will look like.  It can of course be customized any way one likes, just as I (modestly) customized the version we are using now.  There are also a ton of free themes on the SMF site.

I don't hate it, some people just like to nag about stuff.

I think it might be because I use safari (?), but I have never seen a banner.  Anyone out there know how I might be able to correct this?

Likewise, here is the site of freely available themes for the current version of SMF.  I believe it even has a preview mode.  If anyone sees one they think would be a good candidate for adaptation to this board, I'm all ears.

I was exaggerating.  I just meant that it doesn't seem like anyone would really care much if we simply didn't have a banner.  Which isn't difficult to do.

I don't know.  It's a problem in Google Chrome as well, so I'm guessing some kind of bug with the Webkit engine (what Safari and Chrome both use) and background images.

Even if it did not, the level of effort to convert from one PHP/MySQL/HTML/Javascript engine to another is insane.

Give Chief a break. SMF has been a little slow in coming out with 2.0 but it is more feature complete than a lot of alternatives.

I'll challenge y'all with this one. Pick a feature request which is sufficiently defined to be implemented and SMF can accommodate and keep the history which is goodness.

Or hack your way through a migration but based on my experience, its a waste of time.

I recognize I'm shooting my mouth off here but I am just saying Chief I got your back here.

I don't think anyone really has an issue with SMF anyway, they just want a new look for the forum, and maybe a couple of extra features (like getting "ignore" back, which I admit I need to go ahead and do :-[ )

Again I would encourage everyone to check out the SMF Themes site and see if anything catches your eye.
