When I started watching hockey (1989) the only games I could catch (on satellite) were Penguins games which just so happened to be when Mario Lemieux started really stomping anii.

My first pro hockey game was a Pens vs Blues game in April '72 after discharge from the Army.    I had watched pro hockey on TV and saw it live only on the amateur level prior to that.   The Pens still wore the blue sweaters then.    Moved back to the DC area as a civilian in the fall of '72 and took to the Caps when they arrived   ....  probably the Bugsy Watson connection.

Labor dispute shortened season could be a good omen for a dc sports team

Each of the past two lock-outs has produced a first-time-ever Stanley Cup champion in the season immediately following:

1995 - Devils win the first of their three Cups
2006 - Hurricanes win the Cup

...I'm not the cockeyed-optimist type but...why not the Caps?

My first memorable game was Mike Gartner night.   I went to one game at the old Capital Center but don't remember it much.

I have an old giveaway stick from that time, and I think it's the same one (did it also have ads for W. Bell & Co and Eastern Airlines, among others?).

Remember the Frank Borman ('75 to '86 CEO) commercials?

OK, Bleacher Report is the Weekly World News of sports, but nevertheless reading that gave me a serious adrenaline rush.

Drop the puck!!

apparently cnn.com is ditching SI as its sports outsource and going with bleacher report. BR definitely like a FOX news of sports. Quality not quantity. The most I've ever read them was when I was trying to find Clint Dempsey transfer news over the summer. They were the only ones regularly producing content, and I never really felt it was that informed. It always seemed like they wrote about what they want to happen. Like "Liverpool needs Clint Dempsey. He will take them to the top again". I might be exaggerating, but that was the tone of many of the articles

BR is like the New York Post of sports. They put something in the headline to grab you and trick you into reading an article that doesn't tell you anything new or substantiate the headline at all.

just like Washington, Buffalo and Philadelphia have never gotten along. 75 series, Broad Street Bullies, Snow and Barnaby, Snow vs Shields, Campbell hit on Umberger.

....Briere going to Philly  :icon_frown:

never liked the orange.

Teams from Philly (and their fans) are generally regarded around the rest of North America as being something more akin to intestinal flu or hazmat spills.

I guess the Bruins and Sabres also have some old issues to settle going back to the old Adams Division.
