You've never been lied to?

No, but you can't play both ends. "We wanna win." "Hey, it's a business fellas, I ain't opening up my pocket book for some dumbcrap who knows how to run a bullpen."

Every team in every sport does- even the biggest vanity project teams have budgets

But it's disingenuous. Sign Scherzer to $210m, but add some much needed bullpen and outfield depth at the trade deadline, and a solid manager for a standard three+ year contract? Well you entitled little crap, Rizzo, what do you think we're running here a charity???

I really think it's all a miscommunication issue. Rizzo was told to hire the black guy and, due to a poor cell phone connection, he only picked up every other word. That's all.

how dare the lerners impose something as petty as a budget on the president of a for profit enterprise

(Image removed from quote.)
Where was this fiscally responsible thinking when they dolled out 200 million for a RHP?

Sounds like the Lerner's have stooges at MLB Network Radio since JimBo's mic has almost no gain whereas Jeff Joyce's mic's gain is too high.

This has to refer to 2007 when Acta was hired.  Who would Bowden's first choice have been then?

I am listening right now.  They're talking Kansas City Royals right now...

EDIT:

If you have a Sirius or XM subscription for your car, I strongly recommend paying the extra $5-/month for the internet subscription add-on.

So he's claiming that the Lerners aren't afraid to walk away from the table over dollars.  Claiming they have a pattern of paying minimal money for managers (cited Williams and Riggleman).

Also saying that these short-term contracts for less money probably lend to instability in the clubhouse.

Ok, nothing earth shattering there, I thought maybe there was a big name we'd missed out on before due to dinero.

Though he did just say that this deal just smacks of business as usual for TED Lerner who only ever evaluates people based on bottom line numbers which is not how managers can be evaluated.

It was a definite shot at Ted's business practices.

Girardi.

Yep.

.@JimBowden_ESPN says #Nationals story sounds familiar; he wanted Girardi, owners would only pay Manny Acta

so the only reason Girardi chose the Yankees in 2007 and not the Nationals was money?

LOL

Ok
